This is a review of the Samsung Intrepid from Sprint.  Overall, I liked the phone.  It has a good build, and the software is impressive.  There were a few quirks here and there though.  …

Rut Roh Palm, Howard Stern Experiment Backfired

closeThis post was published 7 months 23 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.

That doesn’t really mean much really. Sure, Howard Stern is a very influential radio personality with a huge listening audience, but that doesn’t mean that the other 1/2 of the US won’t be swayed by Howard’s choices. Just kidding, seriously. He did choose the Blackberry Bold over the Pre recently though. It seems that the attempt to get some good PR through a very unconventional method has backfired for Palm. Can we get Paul back Palm?

As noted last week, Palm worked the word of mouth marketing for the Pre and received a lot of air time from Stern. That word of mouth turned into a commercial for RIM, however.

Stern said that the Pre was a fine phone (it’s unclear whether he actually held it), but said its inability to connect to Lotus Notes was a dealbreaker.

Now he’s yapping about the BlackBerry Bold non-stop. The word of mouth bounces RIM’s way—again.

I have some video that I shot at CTIA of the Pre that I plan to get online real soon guys. Sorry for the delay. I had some issues with my hardware at the show. I have to piece this one together and haven’t had the time yet. I was able to hold the Pre for exactly 5 seconds less than I got at CES. I got zero time holding the Pre this time. Palm is being kind of weird with this holding the Pre thing.

    People still use Lotus!!! :)

We all know that RIM is crap. Palm, Windows Mobile and even the iPhone are much better devices than Blackberry. I will tell you right now why each and every one of those devices best RIM when it comes down to it...TCO. Yes, that's right. You total cost of ownership will dramatically go down if you get rid of Blackberry.

Also, don't give me crap about security. Windows Mobile is just as good as RIM when it comes to lost or stolen devices. Also you can also control what is ran on Windows Mobile just like a Blackberry from the server side.

Hopefully more companies will notice that, however I doubt it. I have been pushing this fight for over 7 years now...really closer to 10 but that's a different story. Even so, I did manage to keep one company away from RIM and saved them a lot of money for the 6 and a half years I worked there. That felt good. :)

Howard Stearn not liking it wouldn't dissuede me from it.
  • It sounds like Stern pulled a Michael Bay.

  • Marisa - I would agree, but I was able to hold it for 4-5 seconds at CES. I understand that I was very lucky though. It felt nice to me. I will say that I don't like the keyboard much though. It's too "Centro Like". Small keys. I wish it were more like the Treo keyboards.

Maybe it feels horrible in the hand, and they don't want anyone to know that. I can't think why else they wouldn't let trusted people hold it.
