No doubt windows mobile 6.5 will be announced on May 11th based on everything that has been circulating in the press. I can't wait for more details on the windows mobile marketplace and the development and deliver process. I have developed apps for other mobile devices and the visual studio IDE is simply the best and the emulator for the mobile devices literally work just the same as a real device.

Remember that "launching" the OS could just mean the official version is being released to OEMs and developers.

Devices still might not be available for months after that, so the "second half of 2009" speculation for device launches isn't inconsistent with this news.

Julie, that quote I have inserted into the post above IS what was present on that blog when this post was made. I cut and pasted the quote myself.

I don't believe this information is accurate, so I searched around to find the actual blog entry that everyone seems to referencing as the basis for this statement:

http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2009/04/06/the-road-to-tech-ed-2009.aspx

In the Windows Mobile Team Blog entry, dated April 6th, the original statement is "Stephanie Ferguson, GM of Business Experiences at Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business is going to deliver the kick off presentation of Windows Mobile 6.5..." Someone inserted the word "launch" in the statement to make it sound like Ms Ferguson will be delivering the "kick off launch presentation"
