It\'s is possible that the information within this article is now out of date or updated.

Do you remember this service I took a good 1st look at back in February? Well, it’s open for all now. They have opened the beta to all users. No waiting for a code, just head over and get started.

We just completed upgrading the My Phone web portal.   Over the next few weeks, we will be updating the companion software for your phone, at which time you will be prompted to download the updated software.  The upgrade process is quick and easy – all your settings and data will be retained — so we encourage you to upgrade when prompted to do so.  Today’s web site upgrade includes enabling 19 additional languages on the web portal, adding a Video Demo on the welcome page, providing Help content, and making a number of other improvements based on your feedback.  With today’s release, we’re opening the beta to all users — no more waiting list or promotional codes!  So you can tell your friends, family and colleagues with Windows Mobile phones to visit http://myphone.microsoft.com and start using My Phone today.

Has anyone had any experiences with privacy and security of personal information with storing information on a "public" site even if passworded???
  • I downloaded the application (http://myphone.microsoft.com/install and it installed very easily. Set up and synchronization was also easy (I already had a Windows Live ID). Once I did that, I could log into the MyPhone Web site and see my stuff.

One potential issue is that you can't choose what types of information you want to sync until after you sync (at least if you choose Automatic syncing). They probably should allow you to select those things before your initial sync.

I do wish that you could give a name to each device that syncs with MyPhone, though. So far, it seems like you can only set a phone number for a device. That's good enough for phones, obviously, but what about PDAs like the iPAQ 210? Allowing a nickname and phone number would be better.

Another nice feature would be allowing users to only sync certain categories of information. For example, they warn you in the Terms of Service that, if you use your device for work, certain data of your employer could sync. If the system allowed syncing by category, you could set employer information with an Employer category and then not sync that category.
