iTunes 8.2 has now hit Apple.com and Software Update for Windows and Mac OS.  What does this mean for iPhone users?  Well…in terms of the iPhone and iPod Touch it means two things specifically.

1. iPhone OS 3.0 compatibility.  Apple is laying the groundwork for the next big revision of our favorite mobile OS.  You will need to update to this version in order to sync with the newest iPhone update however if you follow the jailbreak community I would recommend holding off on the iTunes update until 3.0 has shipped.  SSH over USB is broken as well as tools such as QuickPwn and PwnageTool.  If you are planning on jailbreaking, do not update to 8.2 until the Dev Team tells us that 8.2 is safe to use.

2. We will get more stable apps, and hopefully sooner rather than later.  iTunes 8.2 now sends crash reports to developers directly.  Now every single time Lemonade Tycoon REBOOTS my iPhone despite the fact that I have 36MB of free memory EA will see this and hopefully they can fix it ASAP.  This is just the most annoying crash example  and I feel compelled to call out EA on this because they are such a big company a bug like this should have never made it out of the studio.  With this new crash report feature developers big and small will be able to see every time their app crashes and where and how it crashed so they can hopefully get the bugs smashed.  This feature is live now and works with the current 2.2.1 OS.
