Can it be that Nokia has finally realized nothing good can happen by sticking with the old Symbian OS and is now looking for other alternatives?

Not sure, but according to this report, Nokia is already working on an Android based smartphone.

The new touchscreen device will be unveiled at the Nokia World conference in September, say industry insiders, as the Finnish handset giant tries to revive its fortunes in the smartphone market.

Hmm, another Android based phone by a leading mobile company. I’ve just read the Sony Ericsson news… Things are definitely working according to Google’s plan to concur the world! err… mobile industry… (they said 18, and I’m still counting)

  • Remember the buzz last year that Nokia would be making a Windows Mobile handset? Where's that phone?

I'll believe Nokia will be using Android when I see it. I suppose next we'll hear that Nokia will be shipping a WebOS phone, too. (Hey, maybe we can troll for some pingbacks.... :D)

  • This one sounds like The Guardian fishing for Pingbacks, and yes, Nokia denied it before the rumor was even dry. I can see Nokia putting Android on the new MID they are supposed to be planning together with Intel, but a phone? No way.

Ameircans often forget the dominance of Nokia in the world market. Nearly 50 percent of all phones make in the WORLD run Symbian. That means that Symbian is on as many phones as all other OS...COMBINED. Nokia is not going to risk that by appearing to lose confidence in their own product and hedging with Android, which to them is an upstart, half baked marketing gimmick installed on a handful of marginally successful early-adoptor smartphones made for the notoriously faddish US market...in short, no threat.

This is bs, can you really believe in that? Nokia has his own Linux-based mobile osthey would never jump on Android. Besides, they already denied it.

Nokia has already confirmed that it WILL NOT be making an android phone, as the symbian os is their weapon of choice.

I mean, really? Why would they ditch their own proprietary OS for another? That just proves that they failed.
