Google has sent out invitations to its new service called “Google Voice” which basically routes your phone calls thru a new phone number. (Hurry and get your custom phone number! I got mine with my name) The link is http://www.google.com/voice

So whats so exciting about Google Voice? You can call within the US for free. Its like Skype.

No cost to call except in AK, HI:

Their website says:

You can access and make calls from the phone and the Web, block annoying callers at will, and record custom greetings for different callers or groups of callers.
