Nearly two years worth of collaboration culminates in today’s announcement from Sony and Best Buy on a new line of audio products. The two companies worked together on nearly every aspect of the new product offering — from market research throughttp://pdnblog.palm.com/h engineering.

The new ALTUS line of audio products represents a unique mix of Sony’s legendary record of innovation and quality and Best Buy’s incomparable ability to zero in on the needs of the consumer.  Together they’ve pooled resources to bring the new ALTUS line to life in exciting new ways throughout the retail environment.

Included in the ALTUS line is a stylish assortment of wireless music systems, speakers and home theater products, offering consumers a variety of simple, easy and effective ways to experience premium audio throughout the entire home.

Here’s a few details on the products that make up the exciting new ALTUS line:

  • Two iPod docking systems designed to enhance and expand home listening experience — ALT-SA31 multi-room iPod package with three separate components: an iPod/iPhone® docking station and two high-output wireless speakers, plus an AM/FM tuner and S-AIR remote control with an LCD display with metadata.  The powerful new AIR-SW10i iPod dock features a compact docking station with two built-in speakers and a wireless subwoofer that can be tucked away easily.
  • Two multi-room PC audio packages – the ALT-SA32PC, featuring a transmitter that connects to a PC via USB, plus two high-output wireless speakers, or the ALT-A33PC that has an identical transmitter, but includes a universal receiver that can connect to a variety of audio products with its RCA outputs, enabling wireless streaming of  music from computers to most existing music systems
  • ALT-SA34R Socket Speaker Package — Plug speakers directly into any home power outlet with the small, unobtrusive S-AIR wireless speakers
  • Expand audio in up to 10 additional rooms throughout the home by connecting compatible ALTUS or S-AIR devices (sold separately) to the BDV-E500W 5.1 Channel Blu-ray Disc™ Home Theater System (announced earlier this spring.)
