That’s right folks, soon all those apps that the Apple heads are rubbing in our faces will be on our Windows Mobile phones!  Microsoft has just put out a guide for developers that shows how to port existing iPhone apps to Windows Mobile.  According to the Windows Mobile Blog, the guide is based on a developers real experiences in porting the app.  They say that even though the task presents challenges, it is possible.  I myself am hoping that someone is nice enough to port Shazam to Windows Mobile (cause it has a nicer UI than AT&T’s MusicID).  From reading, it seems this task centers around Microsoft’s Visual Studio, as the project was done in C#.

I really like this.  With the Windows Mobile Marketpace coming up, it will provide a great opportunity for developers to host iPhone apps on the store.  I’ve seen those iPhone apps.  They’re tempting enough to get me to buy an iPhone, but now that this is out, I may be able to stay anti-Apple!

  • I've read about this for a while. While it's cool, you have to wonder how many current iPhone-only developers will A) be interested in any other platform besides their beloved iPhone, B) be willing to pay for Visual Studio and C) be willing buy Windows Mobile phones to test on (the testing burden with the variety of WM phones is much greater than with the iPhone).

On the plus side, even if their app isn't acceptable to Microsoft, they can sell it themselves or through the other WM outlets like Handango.

The makers of Shazam wrote it for WinMo first. I have it installed on my Tilt. Works great.

It's also called Music ID which may be why it's so hard to find, but it's out there.
  • How about a link? ;)

  • Yeah! This would be like running Windows programs on a Mac OS! How dare they!
  • Was that regular sarcasm or dripping sarcasm? :D

  • It was sarcasm, marinated in irony, and lovingly wrapped in oblivion before being deep-fried in the hot oil of reason.

Served with a side of observation.
