300_blackberry_bold As one of the apps in my triumbrant of practical WinMo mobile browsers, alongside Opera Mobile and Iris Mobile, I have to post about SkyFire for Blackberry. This version of SkyFire is in private Alpha release and it’s intended solely for the Blackberry Bold at this point, but if all goes well expansion to other Blackberry devices and firmware builds is the logical next step. Looks like there are few features present that are familiar to WinMo users, but apparently weren’t in previous SkyFire Blackberry versions like click-to-call, “Set as Default Browser” features, and downloading files.  The private Alpha release of SkyFire closed a few weeks ago due to an over abundance of users implementing the still very young release on untested Blackberry units like the Curve and Storm.  Keep a close eye on the SkyFire main site for a public beta later this summer.

  • Thank you Marilyn for the write up and mentions. We're working very hard on the next version of Skyfire and appreciate the support! Let us know if we can be of any assistance.

Do any of those browsers allow syncing desktop favorites or importing IE Mobile favorites? If not, that's one good reason to use IE Mobile for some sites. (Although I'm not sure that syncing isn't buggy -- I've lost Mobile Favorites in my desktop version of IE 7 for some reason.)

I've also noticed that Opera Mobile on my Omnia occasionally doesn't load pages that I click on in E-mail (they come up blank). Sometimes refreshing or clicking again in the E-mail or killing and restarting Opera helps, but I don't ever recall seeing that with IE Mobile.

    Steve

P.S. The word is actually triumvirate. ;)
