Suprise 3G – Finally

OK, before anyone reads ahead and slams me for getting excited about a an “Old Technology”, read what’s up here. I have been rocking EDGE speeds at 3G prices with my laptop connect card for over 2 years now. Yes, I have been paying the same for an EDGE connection to my laptop as most of you are currently paying for 3G speeds. Don’t fault me, or question why… I had very little choice really. I have been calling Cingular/AT&T monthly for quite some time asking, when are we getting 3G here… I commonly got answers like, “Soon” and “by the end of the year”. I had really given up caring when and then… all of a sudden… I load up the old laptop and boom…
Now that is a surprise. Not a big deal to many, but for me, it’s like my team winning the Super Bowl…
As you can see below, it’s not the fastest connection you could have, but it’s leaps and bounds faster than what I have gotten used to over the last couple years.
This changes things for the way I view mobile phones too. This wonderful HTC Touch Pro 2 I have loved over the last couple months just became less attractive for example. Now I am itching for the AT&T 3G enabled model since my version doesn’t have 3G. There are many Euro based phones I have enjoyed over the years because the 3G limitation has no effect when you don’t even have 3G available. Now I do, so those days are over. Yes friends, it’s silly, but I am giddy as a school girl right now. Sorry. :)
Thanks AT&T for FINALLY realizing that rural areas need 3G too!
PS. The title of this post is a reference to my “Surprise Mobility” posts about Southwest Airlines WiFi offerings. ( Part 1 | Part 2 )
