zuneHDclean Well, we have already knew the Zune HD was going to sport his fancy sounding Tegra processor from Nvidia, but what’s that mean really? Well according to an article at Tom’s Hardware (via) the Tegra provides the Zune HD with eight different processors, each to do different tasks within the device. That’s pretty hot huh? My other Zunes do just fine with the Dorito Chip it has in it, so this will rock our world I am sure. Have you preordered yours yet? I have!

Specifically, the Tegra provides the Zune HD with eight independent processors, each designed for a specific class of tasks – among them are an HD video processor, an audio processor, a graphics processor, and two ARM cores. Furthermore, the processors can work together or independently to minimize power consumption.

“Tegra provides the multimedia muscle in Zune HD,” said Michael Rayfield, general manager of NVIDIA’s mobile business. “Users will love the device’s new design, amazing multimedia features and HD video out capability. Zune HD is a must-have for anyone looking for the best portable digital media player on the market.”

I don’t know about you, but this gets me a tad excited to be honest. :)

8 processors? Wow! I saw that the Zune HD is confirmed! and available for pre order
  • Too bad "Tegra" sounds like a dandruff shampoo (Tegrin). :D

Seriously, I've always just used my PDA for MP3 playback, but if the Zune HD supports HD radio, I might consider buying one just to get HD radio (I haven't tried any HD radio yet, but am curious).

However, I'm not sure why Microsoft isn't doing a hard disk version. If this supports HD video onboard (as opposed to just upscaling it), you really want hundreds of gigabytes, not dozens.
