Major Update to Best Selling Windows Mobile Game of the Year

closeThis post was published 2 months 15 days ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.

Today, SPB Software, a leading mobile software developer, announced that the Windows Mobile Professional (touchscreen) version of its famous developmental game SPB Brain Evolution has received a major update and now reached version 2.0.

SPB Brain Evolution has been available since January 2007 and has achieved the world’s best selling game status (year 2008). The game allows hundreds of thousands of users worldwide to improve their mental awareness and maintain their newly achieved brain fitness.

This new update of the game includes twelve exercises and can track the progress in your personal brain evolution. These exercises are Sudoku, Numbers, Arithmetics, Quadronica, Guess Who, Memorica, Encyclopedia, Minesweeper, Matches, Balltracker, Geometry and Pairs, the latter two being completely new. They help users to exercise such basic mind activities as logic, arithmetic and memory.

So how does it stack up against the previous version?  Well, as a user that has enjoyed this game for a few years now (originally installed on my Dell Axim), I put it to the test on my smartphone.  Read on to see what changes have been implemented, and my thoughts about the game as a whole.

Brain-Marking

As I got the game installed, I was pleased to notice the total size of the game has not been affected a lot, weighing in at just over 6mb. From the minute I started, one of the big things that caught my eye were the newly improved graphics.  SPB updated the look of the game, still keeping true to the original look, while giving the game more of a user-friendly feel.

So, what is new to this version?  Well, the list of innovations includes:

- Two additional exercises mentioned above, Geometry and Pairs;

- A new scoring and progress tracking system and an option of sharing user’s achievements online as well as posting them to Twitter;

- The new, finger-friendly interface that perfectly matches all the latest smartphones with bigger and more responsive touchscreens;

- Support for 800×480 and 400×240 screen resolutions.

Brain-TrainingWith all of these updated features, I was glad to see that some of the things I enjoyed from the original game are still there, such as: multiple profiles, a knowledge base of interesting facts and a system of rewards, such as the Training Program Completion Certificate, and the Nobel Prize Winner Certificate.

I jumped right into playing – and loved the game.  With the option to publish your results of each sub-game, I was hooked.  At time of posting, my measly Brain Mark of 29 is still 7th on SPB’s site (guess I need to work more on brain skills than I thought!)  And those on my Twitter feed can read about how I have the brain power of a Child!

After the initial Brain Marking is completed, you are given a training regiment to increase your brain capacity and help you learn.  Through research, SPB designed these games to hit the main areas of brain function – namely:

-Pattern Recognition

-Short Term Memory

-Calculation

-Logic

-Path-Finding (essentially a combination of logic and short-term memory)

That is where the games allow you to train your brain, in a friendly, fun way.

The twelve games are:

Sudoku Arithmetics Balltraker Encyclopedia Guess-Who Matches Memorica Minesweeper Numbers Quadronica GeometryPairs

Geometry and Pairs are the two newest additions to the famous SPB game.

In addition, the new update allows for touchscreen control of all buttons.  This new functionality is much easier to control than the previous version.  I was able to easily control all functions of the game, just by using my fingers (and my fingers are often called sausages – not very nimble, lets just put it that way!)

I heartily recommend this game to everyone.  I was a fan of the original version, and am a fan of this update.  Enjoy, and don’t stress your brain too much!

SPB Brain Evolution is available now, in 15 different languages, and can be purchased from the SPB website, for only $19.95.
