motweets4One of the features I love best of my Windows Mobile smartphone is that there is no shortage of different  free apps, even though they’re not neatly consolidated into an app store. Since I avidly tweet almost everyday, I have no problem with leaving Tiny Twitter, ceTwit, and Twikini behind for a Twitter client that enables me to smoothly scroll, tweet, delete, follow, unfollow, et cetera, through my Twitter timeline.

The only Twitter app that enables me to smoothly scroll through my timeline on my touchscreen phone  and delete my accidental tweets is moTweets. One of my biggest Twitter pet peeves is accidentally sending an unfinished tweet, and before I had to actually log into Twitter through my mobile browser to delete a tweet, but now with moTweets I can just tap on my tweet and delete it from my timeline.

All the menus are large and finger-friendly, and moTweets ranks near ceTwit in terms of customizability. Users have the ability to change the color scheme, method of notification from sounds to vibrate, optional quick access buttons, and the size of the timeline among other things.  The app also performs standard functions like posting or import photos from either a file or the phone’s camera, shrink URLs, and imports my location from my GPS.

After a quick tap on any single tweet, I can bring up a submenu where I can navigate to any embedded links or users’ timelines, favorite the tweet, reply, direct message that user, et cetera. Again, ceTwit is the  only other Windows Mobile Twitter app of the ones I’ve mentioned where I can view the timeline of a person that I don’t follow within the app itself.

It seems that moTweets successfully consolidates all the essential Twitter functions into a slick, easy to navigate interface, which is unfortunately hard to find for Windows Mobile touchscreen phones. • I might give this a try, but long-term the ads thing would put me off.

PockeTwit does all of those things - including the smooth scrolling - and it supports Groups and Saved Searches.
  • I have been using PocketTwit for a while, but this looks interesting....I'll give it a try.
  • Tried it for an evening...it is certainly smooth and really nice looking. The ads didn;t really bother me. It is a very feature rich twitter app.

However, the fact you can't turn off avatars means that for every timeline update that uses about 10k with avatars off in PocketTwit, I burn about 300k using moTweet. As I am not on an unlimited data plan, that per update cost is too high for me.

If you are on an unlimited plan or tweet using WiFi, this is a fantastic app, definetely an upgrade feature wise from PocketTwit. However, for those who are counting their Ks, PocketTwit still wins.
