sonyericsson_xperia_x2_white_01 When we 1st started hearing the buzz about the Sony-Ericsson Xperia X1, I was really excited about it. Days, weeks, and then months went by and the thing was still hiding out. When if finally did come out, many devices came and went and the Xperia X1 was no longer something I was looking forward to. In fact, I never got one to check out. I did have a couple opportunities at shows to play, but it was old hat by then. Why did I share all that? Well, because this is a blog and I like to share my opinions and experiences and it leads up to the “Newest Rumor” about a Windows Mobile OEM.

Apparently Eldar Murtazin, a well respected writer has some inside news that Sony-Ericsson will likely stop making WinMo devices after the X2.

SE denied to support WM in future, X2 possible the last one WM device (one more in development but could be canceled).Sales forecast is bad

That’s too bad, the build quality of the X1 was pretty good, just late to market.

  • Take this with a grain of salt. There were also rumors that the X1 would be the last Windows Mobile Xperia and what do we have now -- the X2.

It appears that there are now four kinds of lies -- lies, damned lies, statistics and blogs. (This blog excepted, of course. :D)

Chris, I was in the same boat as you with the X1, and then was wondering about S-E's direction when the X2 seemed to be an X1 with the wrinkles ironed out (same processor, better keyboard, accelerometer). Disappointing, but not surprising to hear that S-E is getting out of the high-end WinMo market. No telling how much money they lost on the Xperia project, after hiring a PR firm to run the xperiancers website, then all the delays, and not getting it picked up by a major carrier.

Maybe it's because of my Axim x50v roots, but I'm always on the lookout for a VGA device with fast processor, good graphics/video, all the latest features, etc, and now I'm stuck on slide out qwerty keyboards. I also would love to try a non-HTC device. So for me, I'm keeping a close eye on the Samsung Omnia Pro.
