This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.Another online service I have used extensively is Flickr. I used to use it a ton for uploading images of devices I reviewed, but now I am starting to use it more for just personal photos. One of the 1st dozen apps I downloaded is another Freebie, Flickr.
The Flickr app opens and you have a few controls right on the front page. In the upper right, you have an icon that allows you to upload photos from your iPhone. Under that, you have a search bar to search for photos. Down at the bottom, under the random photos, you have recent, you, and contact tabs. To search, you just select the field and start typing. You can search from 3 different sources, all uploads, your own contacts, and your photos. I don’t use any of the social aspects of Flickr so i don’t have any friends to search on there.
If you searched for cats, this is what you get. :)
Moving along to the recent tab you have 2 sub categories, Activity and Uploads. The screen on the right shows the one and only comment I have ever left on Flickr.
The You tab brings up your photo stream. The default view is on the left and it’s a tiled thumb grid. On the right, you have a list view. It shows the thumb as well as the image title. Below the “hello ChrisLeckness”, you can choose to dive down deeper. You got sets & tag as well as your favorites.
Here on the left is the sets view and on the right is the tags view.
The other tab on the You page is the Favorites list. As you can see, I have many favs. On the right, you can see the default individual photo view.
On the photo view you can click the comment icon in the lower right of the screen to leave a comment on a photo. On the lower left is a right facing arrow that allows you to email the photos to someone.
As I mentioned in the 1st couple paragraphs, you can click the little camera icon in the top right of many pages to take a photo or video to upload or to upload from your library. Once you take or choose a photo to upload, you can assign it a name, description, what set to put it in, give it some tags, choose the image resolutions, and what privacy level you want.
Here are my many contacts on Flickr (above left) and what app is not complete with a full line of info built in like the much needed privacy policy and terms of service.
Wrap Up
I only give this one a 4.0 because it really failed to wow me much. I realize Flickr is a very simple service, thus the app should be, but something just feels missing here. It’s well worth the free pricetag though. Even if you don’t use Flickr, but like looking at others photos, it works.
Pros:
- Free. I wouldn’t pay more than $0.99 for it if it wasn’t free.
- Allows for mobile uploads. \
Cons:
-
Don’t like the random photos on the main page at all.
