symbol Many have noticed that the Apple stores use Pocket PC solutions for checking customers out. They’ve been doing this for quite some time. The solution is a good one and has served Apple and many other companies well over the years. But thinking about it, how embarrassing has it got to be for Apple to use their competitor’s product all these years? Time are changing though. According to Apple Insider, Apple is testing their own solution using the iPod Touch instead of a Pocket PC.

Multiple sources have noted that Apple will be transitioning its retail store EasyPay handheld checkout systems from Windows-based PDA devices to iPod touch hardware for the 2009 holiday season.

Much luck to Apple in this. It’s about time. I hate to sound like I am a fanboy, but I have always taken pride in the fact that Pocket PC, my 1st love, was being used by Apple.

  • Unless you're an Apple fanboy, reading Apple Insider is useless for any discussion of Microsoft-based products. I especially enjoyed the comments about how "ugly" the EasyPay devices are. Hello, McFly (er, McLean), they're industrial grade inventory devices, not consumer items.

It's like criticizing 18-wheelers for not being sleek and sexy sports cars. What morons.

  • I was in our local Apple Store last week and noticed that they are still doing point of sale with WM devices, but the Genius Bar appointments and check-ins are now being managed by iPod Touches.
