Attention Windows Mobile Shoppers…

<opens his coat> Pssst…wanna buy an application?

So, any of you have a Windows Mobile 6 or 6.1 device and want to take a crack at the new Windows Mobile Marketplace before it officially opens for non-6.5 users next month?

Well, drellisdee at PPC Geeks has given us the keys, or in this case, the CAB file. What the CAB does is  install the link to the Marketplace. When you run the link (which appears as an icon, WM Marketplace, in your Programs menu) it sends your browser to the Marketplace, downloads the newest version of the Marketplace software…and voila, you are golden. I have already installed it and tried it out on my Treo Pro and it is legit (screenshots are taken by me on my Treo Pro). Not too much to be seen yet, but give it time.

Download the CAB here (but you need be registered at PPC Geeks to download, which is not painful, it is a great site) and be sure to join me in giving a massive thank you to drellisdee…great work.

  • Why waste time with a CAB file for a URL? The stupid Palm Application Store for Windows Mobile did that. Why not just post the link instead? If it's too long to type into our devices, we can E-mail it to ourselves. :D

And what exactly does this mean:

for WWE only and only for devices that have a bootlauncher (IE no apache.)

I'm not exactly a newcomer to Windows Mobile and have no idea what WWE means. (I assume it won't work on an HTC Apache due to lack of a bootlauncher, but even that isn't very clear. At first I thought IE meant Internet Explorer, and wondered what IE had to do with anything, but realized he meant "i.e.". Sigh.)

I also read that somebody at XDA Developers had created a Marketplace CAB file, although I don't know if it was just a URL link or the actual WM 6.5 application.
