Wow, I am breathless…what a page turner. The story of the Barnes and Noble Ebook reader has it all, doesnt it? Thrills, chills, drama, chases, deception, corporate intrigue, interviewers with cute voices and smarmy counterfeit B&N guys…this whole story would make a great novel.
Well, we are coming up on the last chapter of this particular story, and Gizmodo has actually outed shots of the Barnes and Noble reader by Plastic Logic, due to be formally announced on October 20th. They won’t reveal the name of the device since they say it hasn’t been finalized but is awful…however if these pictures are accurate I would write poetry to this device, it is that gorgeous.
Check it out after the jump.
The device has a six inch black and white E-ink display, with a color multitouch screen below it! The touch screen can display the books you have loaded by showing the covers in a “coverflow” like display or a virtual keyboard, and is also used for purchasing from Barnes and Noble’s Ebook store. The reading screen has a resolution of 800×600 and the touchscreen is 480×144. It also has a snap on reading light apparently that runs along the top of the device like a sort of sunshield.
One interesting element mentioned by Gizmodo is that since B&N is also a publisher, they will offering the books in their catalog at a deep discount for the reader, which is great news for all you voracious readers out there.
No words yet on the price or date it will be for sale, but they have stated it will cost less than the Kindle. B&N are also lining up a wireless carrier for the device, and Gizmodo speculates that it may be a GSM carrier to make the device suitable for both US and International markets.
All I can say is that if this device looks at all like these pictures indicate, I am so getting one of these….and if the pics, like the video are lies, I simply don’t care anymore. Tell me your pretty lies Daniel, tell me your pretty lies.
