Recently Cardstar updated their app to version 1.4.  With this new update you get the following:

• Added support for over 150 new merchants in 19 newly organized categories.
• Added support for UPCE and EAN 8 barcode symbologies.
• Added gas/kiosk scanning mode (turn screen upside down to activate).
• Added app setting to disable auto-rotate.
• Fixed issue where store locator fails after 3.1 iPhone update.
• Fixed minor display issues.

In the screenshot above, you see the new scanning gas/kiosk scanning mode which should make it easier to use your iPhone at the pump.  The auto-rotate setting is also a very welcome one for me as I often leave the app open while I’m at work and the phone sits horizontally in my case so I can get it out and scan it as needed.  Even when auto-rotate is DISABLED, the new gas/kiosk mode will still continue to function, your phone will just not rotate to the landscape modes.

This looks like a good bump up in functionality and it anchors it that much more in the coveted “first page” of apps that I use the most often.  The one idea that I had was to allow users to upload custom graphics for individual cards.  I’m probably one of the few people who has multiple cards for the same store, but I’m just OCD like that since the ExtraCare logo matches neither card that I have.
