Coming Soon, and Android Phone that is unlocked and Google Made?

googleandroidphone Hmm. That would surely be interesting. You have to wonder what Google is up to honestly. I mean, they are buying every online company worth a damn, they have purchased  Grandcentral and turned it into Google Voice. They have their own OS now. Are they poising for global freaking domination or what? I have heard that they own more fiber in the ground that the telecoms. Not sure if that is hearsay or what, but if it’s true, Apple, Microsoft, Verizon, AT&T, Walmart, Yahoo, Ace Hardware, everyone… BEWARE.

Today there is a little buzz going around that Google is working on their own unlocked Android device.

Google is planning to release its own branded, unlocked, Android-based phone this year, according to a report in TheStreet.com. The move would mark a major break with the system Google has set up to grow the reach of its Android platform.

I think this would put them in good shape really .Right now, Android seems to be a great OS in the making, but the “Multiple handsets’” thing is similar to Microsoft’s situation right now. I think Google would do well to do this though. They can support it, the intergration with their own internet monopoly would be so easy, and they could probably give them away.

Do you think this would be good or bad for Google?

  • What an excellent way to upset the OEMs that bought into Android. I suppose it won't be quite as bad as if Microsoft released a Windows Mobile phone because Android hasn't been out as long and is free and open source, but I bet some OEMs will check whether they want to compete against Google.
