I sure don’t now that the iPhone app has been updated. One of the things that the device had which the iPhone app was lacking was highlighting and note taking. Well, kiss those days good bye.
“With Kindle for iPhone 1.2, you can now tap and hold a word to create a note or highlight. Whispersync will back up and synchronize annotations with your Kindle device.”
I have tested this out and it feels just great. Amazon did a great job with this giving it a real iPhone native look and feel. If you can copy and paste on your iPhone, you can use the new Kindle features, it really is that simple. Another feature which is a great add but not quite as big is the ability for the app to remember the orientation of the device from the last time it was used. For example, if you have the app in landscape mode and are interrupted by a text message, when you relaunch the Kindle app, it will remember you used landscape last and go back to landscape.
This is a solid update for a very solid app and I hope we keep getting updates like this from Amazon. As far as I’m aware, the only feature that the app is lacking that the Kindle device has is the built in Kindle store. We have to go to Safari to get our eBook fix and hopefully that changes soon and Amazon leverages in app purchases to give us the Kindle store built in.
