Nook Already Official Online

Posted by Zealot on October 20, 2009 – 2:03 pm

nook1 Barnes and Noble already have the Nook up on their website, and you can pre-order it in advance of the official announcement. Specs are as we expected, with the touchscreen and all. It is indeed running Android, and trumps the Kindle in all sorts of ways both big and small. My favorites are that it’s 2G internal storage is expandable via Micro SDHC cards, and of course WiFi. The battery is also replaceable, another nice touch. It seems Barnes & Noble really listened to the complaints of Kindle users when they designed this reader. A shame Amazon didn’t when they brought out the Kindle 2.

Forget the stupid name, the Nook is one nice looking device and seems tricked out nicely. B&N already have loads of cover choices and accessories as well as several different insurance plans (remember all the initial returns and the headaches during the first Kindle rollout? Barnes and Noble seems to remember them too) all ready to go on the website.

Amazon is in trouble…BIG trouble.

  • I think it looks very cool.

However, a friend at work says that he thought it was too thick and too heavy. I'm not sure an extra ounce and .14" thickess (especially when the Nook is smaller in height and width) will matter.

    What do readers think?
