This post was published 5 months ago which may make its actuality or expire date not be valid anymore. This site is not responsible for any misunderstanding.I have already determined that Tweetie (and then 2) was the best Twitter client for my needs when I purchased the iPhone 3gs. Today, Tweetie 2 became even more valuable to me. Well, not really valuable, but cooler. Tweetie 2 allows you to upload photos directly from the app. It allows you to choose from many popular services as well. By default, I believe it was set to yFrog. I changed to Twitpic, but now I am using my own custom solution. Some smart cookie took Tweetie 2 and built a Wordpress plug in that talks with Tweetie 2 to allow you to post your photos tweeted to your own blog. They don’t post as a blog post either, they go into a gallery on a page you create. This can bring your followers wanting to see the photos you post to Twitter to your own site and not a 3rd party image site. The plugin is called Twitter2Press. I will show the setup here right now.
The left screenshot shows the image taken with the iPhone directly through Tweetie 2 that was most recently uploaded. Underneath the last photo, you will see thumbs for the others you sent as well as when the tweet was posted. Pretty cool huh? Read on to see how it works.
- You have to have Tweetie 2. (at least I think that is the case)
- You have to have a Wordpress Blog. Not sure what versions are required, I am running the newest.
- You go here and download the plugin. (direct link)
- Install the plugin and enter in the settings. It wants your Twitter username/login as presents a drop down menu to select what page you want to use on the site.
- You might run into some directory permissions, but it will warn you.
- Next up is the setup in Tweetie. Just launch Tweetie. Then on the "Accounts" page, choose "Settings" in the lower left. Next choose image service and select custom. Put your Wordpress blog’s URL in there and save it. All done.
- Now just use Tweetie to take a photo and it will upload the image to your server and add it to the page you specified. Post your Tweet and the image location, your Wordpress blog, is the tinyurl destination.
Here are some additional screenshots walking you through shooting a photo with Tweetie 2.
In the lower left here, select settings. Then pick image service for the options.
Here is the list to choose from. Select custom and put in the Wordpress Blog’s URL. Close it and start a tweet. See the block with 140 on it? Click it and the keyboard goes away to show the other options.
Click camera and the camera opens. Snap the photo and the app asks if you want to retake or use. Hit use and it starts uploading.
Uploading/Saving now. Finish up with your tweet and you are all done my friend.
