What’s Your Smartphone/PDA History?
Ok, so after Chris Leckness’s post on Windows Mobile’s history and over-exaggerated death, I sort of felt a little nostalgic.
So I ask everyone, what is YOUR Smartphone/PDA history? Maybe you started late with WinMo 6, or maybe you you were there from the beginning with Windows CE, or when BlackBerry was a pager!
Mine is after the break…
I started back in 2001 when I got one of those cheap PDA things you could get at Walmart for about $20. It was more of a toy to me. Had a couple of games. I was 8. I didn’t give a crap about organization, though I did write down homework on it.
Then in 2006 I actually needed organization, and my $20 PDA got wet and didn’t work anymore. So my pop (who works for HP) got me an HP iPAQ 4355 Pocket PC. I enjoyed that one. Kept me organized and entertained. It doubled as an mp3 player for me (only had about 20 songs). The QWERTY on it was also very spacious and easy to use. I still have it. It’s sitting in it’s cradle gathering dust right now.
In 2008 I got the HP iPAQ 910c. My first smartphone and second cell phone. I really liked that phone. It was easy to use and the keyboard was nice. I also liked the internet sharing feature, and it had a good camera. I had it for about a year. Unfortunately, the USB connector broke. I called in and it turned out that it had gotten wet at some point. My warranty was voided. I was upset.
In 2009 I got my hands on the HTC Fuze. I sent it back after 2 weeks because it sucked. Then I got the BlackBerry Bold. I liked that phone. So simple and easy. And a good camera with automatic flash. I had to send it in one time because the speaker died, and the replacement they sent was also broken (or so I had thought until they told me it had gotten wet).
So I’m off phone shopping again. This time I got the Samsung Propel Pro. I sent it back. I liked it, but I wanted a touch screen. I reviewed it here.
Now I have the iPhone 3G. I couldn’t afford the 3GS, so I got the 3G. Which I’m fine with.
That’s my smartphone/pda history. What about you?
