Came across this interesting looking mutant in my Possibly Posts file today, as I was whiling away a Sunday, struggling mightily not to post anything more about Ebooks until sundown (must…HOLD….ONNNN)

This is C-motech’s Mangrove 7-inch tablet, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon based MID (Mobile Internet Device)/Smartphone/Thing that against all odds, common decency or human understanding is running Windows Mobile 6.5. All that extra chassis space means that the Mangrove can run WiFi, 3G and WiMAX (jeepers, does WinMO even SUPPORT WiMax?). The display switches from portrait to landscape modes and the unit also features two standard USB ports and a microSD card slot.

20090923113623647 No word on when (if?) it will be available, or how much the Mangrove would cost…but it sure makes WinMo 6.5 web browsing look nicer (if a bit upside down) doesn’t it? I admit it….I would buy one, just to show it off to people and do my Crocodile Dundee impression.

“Ya call that a smartphone? THIS is a smartphone….”

By day a department manager and writer for a major network device vendor...by night Zealot stalks the mean magnetic streets, striking fear into the hearts of bandwidth abusers and theme park mascots. Zealot has been involved with mobile devices for more than a decade now, starting off with dumb phones, moving to PDAs and then to smartphones, notebooks and netbooks with the odd PMP thrown in. Most of his mobile time currently is spent on a Treo Pro, Zune HD, Thinkpad T61, Gigabyte M912M or a Hackintoshed Compaq Mini 704. He proudly groks the Geek community and considers himself a Neo Maxi Zune Dweebie (thanks Will Wheaton!).

  • I like it! I wonder how much it would cost and if it would ever be available in the US. Lots of cool technology never makes it here.
  • That's what Dynamism is for. :D
