The talented Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet’s “All About Microsoft” Blog posted some interesting information about the possibility of Microsoft developing a Mac version of it’s Zune software. Could this be another step towards better establishing the ZuneHD brand as a device for all users and will there be a Linux version to follow?

This would provide a few substantial benefits and can be sure Microsoft will take a detailed look into the efficacy of such an undertaking. Such as iTuens users wanting a subscription service, users avoiding creating virtual environments of Windows XP on a Mac just to use the software, minimizing the number of people that ask for a Mac version of the software and most importanly increasing the possibility for additional Zune owners to come forward.

I say if iTunes is available for Mac and PC, so should the Zune software. Now we just need to find some obnoxious software (Quicktime, Bonjour etc.) to be installed on a Mac during the Zune software install.  It’s only fair.

So I ask you:

  • Do you want to see a Mac version of the Zune software?
  • And do you own a Mac or plan to move to using one in the future?

I REALLY hope they release Mac software for Zune. I hate iPods, hate iTunes, and refuse to switch to Apple when it comes to my phone or MP3 player. I've had my 120 Zune for nearly a year now and it is entirely superior to iPods. However, I have given up on PCs and have recently purchased a MacBook Pro. This means I have to keep my old PC around just to update my music player unless I want to run Windows on my Mac. What an inconvenience. Come on Microsoft, stop being a bitter bastard.

Absolutely. I have PC's at home, but my work has Mac, and I like to play my iPod at work. I like the idea of the Zune HD, but I'd have limited access to it at work, which is another reason why I'm favoring the iPod touch, though I haven't bought either of them yet. Making Zune usable on the Mac will only help Microsoft and I'm not sure why they've so far refused to do it.
