Here’s another from a company that I have loved for years, PDA Mill. I am really happy to see them developing for the iPhone as well. This one is called “Bowling for Burgers”. It is set back in the greaser days and the setting is in an old school bowling alley, complete with a jukebox and Fonzie-like characters.

It’s the Annual Bowling for Burgers Tournament! Where the hippest Burger joints prove their superiority by competing in the only competition that matters: Bowling! Choose your Character, each with different strengths and weaknesses, then pick out your Ball and head to the alley!

Features:

  • Choose from 3 unique Characters, each with their own stengths and weaknesses
  • Selection of 5 different balls, allowing for different styles of play
  • Beautiful Graphics, Art, and Animation
  • Intuitive controls that emulate the feel of real bowling!
  • Adjustable difficulty
  • Hi Quality Bowling Music and Sound Effects
  • 2 Player Mode
  • Arcade extras like Milk-shakes, French Fries, Spilled Drinks, and more!
  • Highscore List

The opening screen (left) gives you a few choices of what to do. You can view the info about the game (top right), the staff photo gives you the credits (lower left), and the jukebox does just that, gives you a choice of songs as well as some other settings. Sneaky way to get to the settings. There are 2 other options left, one is to play and the other is to continue if you had to quit mid game.

The game play is quite simple. If you know how to bowl, it’s a snap. You don’t have to keep score though, the game does it for you. There are variables that affect the way you play though, watch out for drinks, french fries, and other hazards in the lane.

Wrap Up
I will be honest here, there are other bowling games that are more detailed and more intuitive, but this one is just plan cute and fun. It’s simple and to the point. It’s not as easy as it looks either. The graphics are nice too. The story line and being set in the old days makes it more appealing to old folks like me too. For the 99 cent price, you could grab one of many bowling games in the App store, but this one is one better of the few I’ve tried so far.

Pros:

  • Original, Retro style game
  • Easy controls
  • Added difficulties make it a longer playing game

Cons:

  • Not very in depth, got bored faster than I wanted to
