After a long run of Windows Mobile devices, I tried Android back when the T-Mo G1 hit and wasn’t overly impressed. The chin phone failed to capture my enthusiasm. Then came the HTC Hero on Sprint. Excellent device, Sense UI made it an awesome phone, but the lack of keyboard left me out. That’s pretty funny considering the lack of keyboard was one of my main gripes with the iPhone and now I am using the iPhone as my daily driver. I am now finishing up my review of the Samsung Moment, a vanilla Android phone on Sprint. It’s running Cupcake and doesn’t have many bells and whistles on top of the standard Android package. Well, right on cue, I will be receiving the Motorola Droid on Monday. I will test it out for a couple days and hand it over to someone else to do the full review. After that, I will be taking a look at the hottest Windows Mobile phone on the market.

We have a couple editors with the Droid already too. Stay tuned for their opinions as well! One of them will be publishing a husband and wife style real life study too.

Glad to see the Droid getting props, will watch for what is what with the new OS however I would like to see some stuff on the HTC Ozone as that is the phone that I have now. Am I the only one who has one?
  • I think your review of The Droid will be favorable. After using it for over a week I am very happy except for some what are minor issues for me.
Some times the touch screen lags a little and its virtual keyboards don't appear as I think they should. One tap, but that seldomly happens.
Overall its a great phone and once more phones come online more and more people will see the benefit of open source.

I will be interesting to see how far android has come and hearing a more balanced point of view. Could the next phone be the HD2? Can't wait. Here is hoping fo ra at&t version of that phone.

It will be interesting to hear the opinion of Droid and the Android platform from a former Windows Mobile user.

On the desktop computer, a lot of people used Windows because they didn't like Apple, or they wanted a wider choice of hardware, and Windows became the generic OS. But on the smartphone, Android fits that criteria also. Maybe that's why Android is splitting the Windows Mobile customers, but is having little effect on the iPhone (so far). So, can Android become the default multi-hardware OS for the smartphone?
