Meet the Magellan RoadMate…for the iPhone and iPod touch. There’s two parts to this: the app, and the car kit.
The app has some stuff going for it. How does spoken street names, NAVTEQ maps, 3D landmarks, in-app music control, a pedestrian mode, and a price tag of $79.99 sound? Pretty good right? That’s the first part…
Introducing the second part, the Magellan Car Kit for the iPhone. There is a built-in GPS receiver, therefore the iPod touch WILL work with this app/car kit combo. Also the Car Kit supports a variety of cases and skins, so you don’t have to remove them when you’re going to dock it in the car kit. It also will charge, and add a little sound to your speakers on your iPhone/iPod touch.
If you want this to work on your iPod touch, you have to buy both the app, AND the car kit. The iPod touch doesn’t have a GPS receiver, unlike the iPhone, but the cradle does have a GPS receiver built-in, therefore the iPod touch can get a GPS signal.
The app is available right now in the App Store for a hefty $79.99. The car kit is “coming soon” What do you guys think? Yet another GPS app for the iPhone and iPod touch? I think some iPod touch users will be interested, but me personally, I want to see Google Navigation running on the iPhone…
