Ok, It’s been 1 month. How am I liking the iPhone 3GS?

A-Ok Ok guys and gals. I have been on the iPhone for 1 month and 2 days so far. I rarely carry the same device for more than 2-3 weeks. I did carry the HTC Touch Pro 2 for 3-4 months though. I told myself that if the flicker of light that the iPhone 3GS provided when I 1st bought it was still flickering after a month, that I would be surprised. Surprised I am. The flicker has turned into a flame. It’s not a raging fire, but it’s much stronger than when I initially purchased the iPhone 3GS.

I have to throw a little back story here before I move on. I was very skeptical of the iPhone back when it was announced. The weeks leading up to it’s official launch got me going a bit and I went from skeptical to curious. The day it launched, I called into work and went to stand in line. I was 1st in line for 90% of the day. I broke down and got out of line to eat. I returned to be 6th or 7th in line. I still got the original iPhone and still have it to this day.

Why didn’t I continue to use this 8GB iPhone I paid so much for? It wasn’t for me at that time. I am a Windows Mobile Device MVP and I was really supportive of Windows Mobile. I am a heavy MS Exchange user, so when the iPhone came up lame on Exchange support, it was almost a deal breaker. There were some other little things I didn’t like too. I went back to Windows Mobile and moved on.

Over the next 2 years, Apple has released update after update after update and now all my little gripes are remedied. I have nothing to complain about anymore.

On the day that Microsoft released Windows Mobile 6.5, I decided it was time for a change. It was time to try something new. I decided that day that I would buy an iPhone 3GS on the way home from work and I did it. I was concerned initially that the flicker that the iPhone gave me would fade fast as I started missing the power and familiarity of Windows Mobile. I am here 1 month 2 days from them telling you that it hasn’t faded at all. It’s growing larger.

I have had many, many devices. I own more than 40 digital media players, including more than 10 Microsoft Zunes, 2 iPhones, and 3-4 iPods. I own more than 30 Windows Mobile Phones. I also have 25+ Pocket PC devices too. I am no stranger to toys and with all that, it’s hard to really impress me. It’s all become so mundane over the years. The HTC Touch Pro 2 excited me enough to where I dropped about $800 USD to get a EU model from Europe way before the US started see models on the carriers here. The 1st device to ever capture me and make me want to play and play and play some more was my original Dell Axim X5. The X51 took over and until I started into the Smartphone world, I loved it.

No single device has made me enjoy myself more than the Dell Axim. Others are quite better, but the early days with the Dell Axim made me want to play with the device. The HTC Touch Pro 2’s luster faded pretty quick, but the device was so good that I couldn’t stop using it. The problem is that I didn’t want to play extra with it. It did it’s job and went back into the pocket.

I have now found another device that makes me feel like the Dell Axim did. It’s not the original iPhone as I was not overly impressed back then. It is the Apple iPhone 3GS. In the past 3 years, I have not fiddled with a phone like I have been this past month. I pull this thing out 30-40 times a day. Every time I do, I find something else I like. I have had to charge this thing 2x a day most days. I feel revived in my enjoyment for a tech toy again. Last March at CTIA, I shared with some colleagues that I was bored with all this and was considering moving along. I am glad I didn’t because I am excited again.

I said this over on Mobilitysite before. I am not giving up on Windows Mobile, but she and I are taking a break. I will give her another chance someday, but for now, I am enjoying the forbidden fruit. The Apple.

Now, I still remain a Microsoft Fanboi and I doubt that I will ever fall prey to the world that I have mocked numerous times before, but I will admit and appreciate the turtle-neck guy’s innovation with the iPhone.

So, to answer the question… Hell yeah, I am enjoying the iPhone 3GS 1 month and 2 days later.
