Last night, I received an email from someone at Storm8 to set the story strait. I mentioned yesterday that Storm8 used the Unity game engine and the contact was to correct me. I apologize for that mistake, as I said in that post, I am not a dev and was going off what I had read. Here is the deal on that…

Good evening, my name is ____ ______ and I am with Storm8. I just saw your post that mentions Storm8 in relation to the Unity games issue, and I wanted to reach out and let you know that Storm8 is not based on the Unity game engine. We haven’t used the two APIs that allegedly caused Ravensword and/or other Unity apps to be rejected by Apple. On our part, we updated our applications in August so that current game versions do not download, store or use iPhone telephone numbers when a game is opened. To view a statement to our users outlining the proactive steps we’ve taken, you can go here.

They took steps to take out the code that was downloading and storing private data in August too. This is why there was a class action lawsuit that was filed against them. Furthermore, the link in the above quote is a statement by Storm8 where they addressed and announce the resolve.

The database of phone numbers was destroyed in August; phone numbers that are still transmitted via older versions of Storm8 games are not used or stored. Upgrading to new versions (versions released after August 30th) of the games eliminates the issue.

Thanks for the heads up Jeff. I am still taken back that this was done in the 1st place, but it’s good to see them address the issues and destroying the data. I personally have never played their games, but I have a local friend here that does all the time and he told me that he’s not had any issues with unwanted calls or text messages coming in, so they might have had the data, but it wasn’t being used as far as I know.
