Sony Xperia X10-thumb-250x337-6213 We all expected there to be a rush of Android phones over the next few months, but  I don’t think anyone was prepared for the merry go round of highly impressive devices that are being announced one after the other. It seems like every week there is a new “flagship” Android phone revealed.

Today’s Android world-beater is the Xperia X10 from Sony Ericsson, which had originally been leaked as the X3. Even better, it is featuring the Zunesque Rachael UI that was first seen all over the internet a few days ago. When you consider that the Xperia X1 and X2 were both Windows Mobile mainstays, the choice by Sony Ericsson to switch to Android for their featured Smartphone will be a bitter pill for some of us to swallow…but it still looks like a very hot phone.

See what all the fuss is about after the jump.

The X10 features a 4-inch, 480-by-854 pixel "scratch-resistant" touchscreen which is rumored to be capacitive. As seems to be the current flavour of choice for Android powerhouses, the CPU is a 1-GHz Snapdragon QSD8250 processor and the memory can be expanded with a MicroSDHC card.

Typical of Sony Ericsson, in addition to the innovative UI one of the most notable parts of the X10 is the camera. It’s an 8.1 megapixel monster with a 16X digital zoom, auto focus, smile detection, geotagging, image and video stabilization and face recognition.

Other specs include

  • Wi-Fi
  • A2DP Bluetooth stereo
  • MP3 and AAC support
  • MS Exchange support with ActiveSync
  • Assisted GPS with Google Maps
  • GSM GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
  • UMTS HSPA 900/1700/2100
  • UMTS HSPA 800/850/1900/2100

All in all this likes a very impressive phone, and it will be interesting to see how it measures up against the Droid/Monolith from Motorola. Those few people who have handled very early models have said it was somewhat slow, but once the Snapdragon chipset is optimized and the software is final I would expect that to change.

No word yet on how much the X10 will cost or where it will be released but it is slated for the first quarter of 2010. There is also some confusion as to whether it will run Android 1.6 or 2.0, so stay tuned.

Well, to be honest I would still prefer the omnia. It has a 8.1 megapixel combined with the OS of winmo 6.5. Its touchscreen is smooth due to the hardware and the features available in winmo 6.5 make this the most desirable phone.
  • I'm surprised that Microsoft didn't ask SE to call it something other than Xperia like they supposedly did with Samsung and the Omnia.

It shows T-Mobile's 3G bands, just like the X1 did. I wonder if that would indeed come to fruitation
