16 Year Old Chooses HTC Snap over iPhone 3G

My daughter has access to dozens of hot phones, but she’s not taken much interest in any Windows Mobile phones she’s played with. There were a couple that peaked her interest, but she LOVED the HTC Snap I got from Microsoft recently. In a casual conversation, I gauged her interest and she said out of all the phones in our house, she’d pick the HTC Snap. Keep in mind, I have an iPhone 3G I bought for here (she doesn’t know that though), the HTC HD2, and a host of other phones laying around.

With that said, I am getting her an HTC Snap and give the iPhone 3G to my wife. I was truly amazed that she didn’t like the iPhone more. Most her age would die for an iPhone right?

Hi Guy's,

I require a PDA which can syn with out look and has a hands free kit with an external arial as I live in a rural region with limited terrain and deep valley's what do you suggest?

That's a better question for the forums than for blog comments.

Personally, I don't know of any car kit with an external antenna, although some phones have a patch for one.

As a 16yo, I would have chosen the Snap too!

The thing that makes WinMo and BlackBerry better than iPhone is that WinMo and BlackBerry have one consistent UI throughout (save for games, of course). They all use the same buttons, styles, widgets, etc. When I used the iPhone, though I enjoyed it, it seemed like I had to learn a new interface for every app I installed. Plus, the aesthetics and "eye candy" were somewhat annoying. WinMo and BlackBerry are (usually) pretty straight forward.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the iPhone, it was just lacking in some rather important places.

This is only my opinion though.

My wife uses txt, email, light web browsing, facebook, contact management all on her LG Lotus. She keeps declining my offer for a more powerful phone (winmo fan myself) but the only thing she needs my "advanced" phone for is an occasional game of jawbreaker. Her mother bought the Snap and the only reason she chose it was the MSExchange email for her job. Most people want something that just works. Most of us on the mobilitysite find that idea as just the starting point of criteria, not the end point.

Bought one a few days ago, was ok but couldnt stop me going back to my E71. Keyboard has a few issues and WM Standard was a pain to navigate, a criticism levied at S60 but in comparison it is much easier, plus Gravity and Spotify are killer apps.

Be interested to know your daughters thoughts on the E71 and 9700 in comparison.

Of all the devices available (on my carrier) now I would choose a Tilt 2/touch pro 2 over any of them. I would like to get my hands on a HD2 just to compare.

I second that. HD2 is just plain gorgeous of a phone. iPhone does not come anywhere near. By the way, I have a TP2 now, and I think it is the second best WinMO phone out there (first if you are looking for one with real qwerty keyboard). Love that piece of HTC hardware & custom interface!

I'm with you, but the Tilt-2 is just plain nice.

The fact that the T-2/TP-2 is available on all the major carriers is a huge plus, too.

Nice I guess she was overwhelmed with the iPhone or wants to be unique and doesn't want to be like everyone else, which version of the snap are you going to get her there are so many here in the U.S.

Im 17 and i picked the Touch Pro 2/ Tilt 2 over an Iphone 3GS! I've also had many friends who compliment me and ask me where i got my TP2! Many of the teenage crowd like the iphone for the apps so they just get an itouch and then whatever phone they are interested in seperate!

Wouldn't it be nice if the people who made phones, and software for that matter, cared about what old fat men with a little spare cash wanted. Why worry about long term usability, functionality or any other useful adjectives when you can catch the teen who can convince her dad that she will die without it, and then need the next one they tell here to want.

My wife wins that argument every day!!!!!!!

As an aside, I really hate having to fill in email and such just to comment!!!!!!!!!

Back to the story, I guess the awesome keyboard was too much of a competition for poor virtual keyboards of the iphone and the hd2, not to mention the overall size difference.
