nexus-one-and-qr-rm-eng Now here’s one that fits the Google style. No, not a 3 year beta, not another small start up buy out, no none of that. What we have here might be another one of Google’s famous “invite only” services. You know, like Google Wave or one of the other invite only programs Google has buzzed with this method. According to Engadget, that might be the case with the “Google Phone”, the Google Nexus One.

because we’ve got some intel here suggesting that it’ll be available only by "invitation" at first. Our tipster doesn’t have information on how those invites are going to be determined, other than the fact that it’s Google doing the inviting — if we had to guess, current registered developers are a strong possibility — but the good news, we suppose, is that T-Mobile will apparently sell the phone directly at some to-be-determined point in the future.

In addition, Engadget also uncovered some specs on the device. They have some scans from a presentation that show some details on the Nexus One.

  • Android 2.1
  • 11.5mm thick
  • 512MB RAM, 512MB ROM, 4GB microSD in-box expandable to 32GB
  • 5 megapixel camera with mechanical AF and LED flash
  • HSPA 900 / 1700 / 2100, 7.2Mbps down and 2Mbps up — in other words, yes to T-Mobile 3G and no to AT&T 3G, though you’ll still be fine on EDGE
  • 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display

Not too shabby, but without a physical keyboard or one as good as the iPhone’s onscreen keyboard, I am not too interested. Thanks anyhow Google. Ok, I admit it, I’d still like to get my hands on one to test out at least. Send me an invite!
