Palm announced quite a bit of interesting stuff at their press event today at CES. Starting with the big stuff….
That is the much rumored Palm Pre Plus. It has some substantial improvements. 16GB internal memory (the original Pre was 8GB), 512MB RAM (original Pre was 256MB), it removes the center button in favor for the Pixi’s clean look with just a touch strip. And also it comes standard with the Touchstone back, which was an extra option before.
Now for the Pixi Plus….
It looks almost exactly the same as the Pixi. They added Wi-Fi for the Pixi Plus…which is a plus.
Both phones are exclusive to Verizon Wireless. They will be available starting January 25th. Palm did not announce any pricing today.
Palm also announced some pretty exciting stuff today. webOS 1.4 adds tons of new features such as video recording and editing with one-touch upload to YouTube and Facebook which is pretty awesome. webOS 1.4 will be available OTA in February.
3D gaming is coming for webOS. They played some demos today, and wow game quality is awesome. Smooth and fluid, with top notch games such as Sims 3, Need for Speed. 3D games will only be available for the Pre starting today. Sorry Pixi folks.
Flash 10.1 was also demoed at CES, for the Pre. The Flash 10 beta will be available in the App Catalog soon, and webOS 1.4 will have it built-in.
Palm also announced a new applications called Palm Mobile Hotspot. Essentially it’s tethering but you can connect up to five devices to it. This is a paid service, probably $30 extra, but that’s purely a guess.
That’s it! Pretty big announcement with lots of new stuff!
