After testing & reviewing Specks CandyShell case I was asked by a few friends and work mates was there a good holster I could recommend, well after checking Speck Products site I found that they had the QwickDraw Holster, I wondered if this would work with the CandyShell case?
After speaking to my contact at Speck Products to gain more information about their holster system, I was advised that unfortunately no it wouldn’t work with the CandyShell case however, I was asked if I would like to test and review the holster. Thanks to Speck Products I received a QwickDraw holster.
Now I have used plastic holsters before when I had the Apache (PPC6700) and also my Moto Q9h, so they were not new to me, I even liked them over a full plastic or metal case.
It felt like Christmas all over again opening the box, Specks packaging is impeccable, very easy to open and getting to the product is a dream.
Size: wow, very tidy and great size, was surprised actually as was expecting it to be a lot bigger and thicker, also very light.
Style: The look of the Holster screams “Professional”, very smart design, could be used for every day use.
Security: With most Holsters it’s “How does it fit” that plays a big part, I was expecting the QwickDraw to be very tight and hard to get the iPhone in and out for at least the first week, but again was taken back that by the third day it was easier to get the iPhone in and out. The iPhone feels very secure in the Holster.
Usage: After using the holster for just on a week now and found it to be a very serviceable case. It felt comfortable on my hip in both vertical and horizontal settings.
Screen In: The benefit of having the screen facing inward is obvious, Protection. This is how I used it for the first few days, the only problem I found was listening to music as the quick-release latch pulls down over the headphone jack point. I found the best position was Vertical as it gave me more control of the iPhone when I was taking it out of the Holster.
Screen Out: As per the photos on the left, it was surprisingly the best position as it gave access to the headphone jack point and if I wanted to I could just unclip the holster and answer or interact with the iPhone. The only possible downside is the screen is now facing the outside so could suffer an impact damage, however like anything to do with cases even in your pocket or hip case it can still be damaged.
Most people will look at the QwickDraw and say wow just another holster… most Holsters I have used and owned were just plastic, with no protection for the screen against the plastic (as per my Moto Q9h holster), but the QwickDraw is a plastic Holster with 100% vegetarian leather alternative wrapped around it. It’s got a nice soft velvety interior lining as well.
The thing I liked the most was the way that I got my iPhone out with the quick-release latch, it slides very easily and after sliding out my iPhone the quick-release latch snapped back with a nice click sound.
So to sum up
* Would I recommend the QwickDraw? –
Yes, I really did like the QwickDraw, it felt secure, looked great and did what it was supposed to do, gave different ways to hold your iPhone and both vertical or horizontal positions also.
* What could Speck do to improve it? –
Well they could make a Holster that could take the iPhone and say the CandyShell case would be the best of both worlds and in my view make an awesome combo, yes it would add some thickness but hey I would still buy it…
