There is an Apple TV Advertisement that shows how in an iPhone you can run an application while you are using the phone in a call. At the end AT&T asks: Can you phone do that?

If you have an Android phone with T-Mobile, then the answer is yes. All you have to do is hit the home button while in the middle of a call. The call will be sent to the notification bar and allow the user to access any application. Since T-Mobile uses the same GSM technology as AT&T, it can handle voice and data at the same time.

t-mobile is GSM carrier like ATT, they are targeting Verizon which is CDMA and does not allow both voice and data communication at the same time.

My Windows Mobile phone can do that. As can every WM device dating back to the launch of the OS. Of course, now that Apple have done it we must all be impressed at this “revolutionary” and “magical” concept. I hate marketing.

You can use apps on a call on Verizon (and probably Sprint and other CDMA carriers), too. They just can't be apps that access the Internet — and you can even use those if you're near WiFi or using Skype.
