What you are about to read in this Los Angeles article is comparable with 911 conspiracy theories. The difference is that in this case Apple admitted the crime: To systematically lie to their users by altering the signal level shown by iPhones from the first generations.

The company admitted Friday that its iPhones have been inflating signal strengths and masking poor reception.

Another proof of the unscrupulous practices of this company  that now is busy teaching us how we should be holding our phones.

I admit it is problematic, possibly even unethical…and Apple's statement they just never noticed it is pretty silly…but “911conspiracy theory”??

Wow, that even tops MY hyperbole Frank. You REALLY need to lay off the coffee. Maybe find a nice calming hobby.

Never a dull moment around here.

I hate what you are saying but I'll always defend your right to say it. That's my opinion about a company that does not respect at all me as a customer.

The way that I read the story was that the signal strength indicator was reading too low, making it appear that the phone didn't have reception when it really did.

Maybe I misread that, though, because that certainly wouldn't explain dropped calls — unless the phone drops calls in low signal strength areas to avoid using too much battery power. (My understanding is that cell phones boost their power in low signal areas to try to connect to towers, thus using more battery power. If you were in a very low signal area — near zero — you could theoretically imagine trying to boost your power infinitely, eating your battery in seconds. :D So it would make sense for phones to stop trying to connect — and thus dropping any calls in progress — if they thought the signal was too weak.)
