Optimize computer speed Ars Technica did recent speed tests on both Android 2.2 and iOS 4, gauging how well they handled JavaScript, which is the key to web browsing speed. The findings were conclusive…and surprising.

They used two different benchmark tests, SunSpider and V8, and the results of the two tests supported one another. It seems that compared with the new version of Android, the iPhone isn’t even in the race.

Here is a bit of what Ars Technica had to say about it…

We compared these findings (Android 2.2) with that of our tests of Apple’s mobile Safari browser on the iPhone 4. The results show that the Android device delivers significantly faster JavaScript execution than the iPhone, scoring over three times better on V8 and almost twice as fast on SunSpider. Apple has some work to do it if wants mobile Safari to retake the crown as the fastest mobile browser.

Why do I have a feeling we will be seeing a Mobile Safari upgrade soon?

good to know, but Ars always acted as an Apple marketing department extension, ill take anything they say or conclude with a grain of salt.

Fair..but since they concluded that Android was faster in this case, I wonder how Apple will react.

It will be healthy if Apple make Mobile Safari faster, and not create another marketing viral or campaign that will boost the ego of the fanboys
