Bluetooth headsets are a must-have accessory now, and there are a ton of great headsets out there. The Jawbone ICON is one of the top-of-the-line headsets out there, and I have been using one for the past week or so. What makes the ICON so great? Keep reading…
The design of the ICON is really amazing. It’s compact, and it has a sleek, clean look to it. There is one button on the ICON, and that’s pretty much how you control the ICON. The ICON uses microUSB for charging and sync, and lastly, there’s an on/off switch. The ICON wasn’t hard to set up at all, it was pretty much turn on, pair, and BOOM! Connected.
Jawbone includes a few different setup options. You can use an earhook along with a standard ear gel, or you can just use a larger, enhanced ear gel which is extremely comfortable, and to my surprise, it stayed in my ear even while running.
The Jawbone ICON comes in a few different styles and colors: The Hero, The Rogue, The Thinker, The Ace, The Catch, and The Bombshell. I received The Rogue, and I must say; it looks amazing. It looks like your ordinary black headset, but under closer inspection, it has an dark, ruby red look to it. It’s stylish, and it’s definitely something I could see myself wearing.
The ICON features NoiseAssassin 2.5, the latest in their noise cancellation technology. In noisy places, the ICON filtered out the noise, and just kept my voice present. However, when I went close to an area with a lot of wind, callers on the other end had more issues hearing my voice. The ICON actually talks to you, and gives you battery alerts, and tells you the caller ID when someone calls in. You can actually apply different audio tones with myTALK, which I’ll explain in a little. The ICON can remember up to 8 phones/devices at once, and it can seamlessly manage two calls from two different devices at once.
What’s my favorite part of the Jawbone ICON package? The myTALK software. It’s still in beta, and you can sign up with your email at mytalk.jawbone.com. myTALK allows you to update the firmware on your ICON when a new one is released, and you can customize your ICON with different voices for when the ICON relays messages to you. Currently, there’s an A2DP profile you can apply to your ICON which basically enables A2DP on the ICON. It’s still in profile is still in “beta”, but I didn’t experience any issues whatsoever. It’s an excellent idea and platform, and it’s a great way to update software and apply beta profiles to the device.
Jawbone claims 4.5 hours of talk time, and up to 10 days of Standby time. In real world testing, I got about 4 hours of talk time.
Overall, the Jawbone ICON is a winner in my book. It’s sleek, stylish, and comfortable to wear. NoiseAssassin worked really well for the most part, the myTALK is just an awesome program. It retails for $99.99 at Jawbone, and it may be pricey for a few of you guys, but if you want a quality bluetooth headset, this is one of your best choices.
