Bluetooth headsets are a must-have accessory now, and there are a ton of great headsets out there. The Jawbone ICON is one of the top-of-the-line headsets out there, and I have been using one for the past week or so. What makes the ICON so great? Keep reading…

The design of the ICON is really amazing. It’s compact, and it has a sleek, clean look to it. There is one button on the ICON, and that’s pretty much how you control the ICON. The ICON uses microUSB for charging and sync, and lastly, there’s an on/off switch. The ICON wasn’t hard to set up at all, it was pretty much turn on, pair, and BOOM! Connected.

Jawbone includes a few different setup options. You can use an earhook along with a standard ear gel, or you can just use a larger, enhanced ear gel which is extremely comfortable, and to my surprise, it stayed in my ear even while running.

The Jawbone ICON comes in a few different styles and colors: The Hero, The Rogue, The Thinker, The Ace, The Catch, and The Bombshell. I received The Rogue, and I must say; it looks amazing. It looks like your ordinary black headset, but under closer inspection, it has an dark, ruby red look to it. It’s stylish, and it’s definitely something I could see myself wearing.

The ICON features NoiseAssassin 2.5, the latest in their noise cancellation technology. In noisy places, the ICON filtered out the noise, and just kept my voice present. However, when I went close to an area with a lot of wind, callers on the other end had more issues hearing my voice. The ICON actually talks to you, and gives you battery alerts, and tells you the caller ID when someone calls in. You can actually apply different audio tones with myTALK, which I’ll explain in a little. The ICON can remember up to 8 phones/devices at once, and it can seamlessly manage two calls from two different devices at once.

What’s my favorite part of the Jawbone ICON package? The myTALK software. It’s still in beta, and you can sign up with your email at mytalk.jawbone.com. myTALK allows you to update the firmware on your ICON when a new one is released, and you can customize your ICON with different voices for when the ICON relays messages to you. Currently, there’s an A2DP profile you can apply to your ICON which basically enables A2DP on the ICON. It’s still in profile is still in “beta”, but I didn’t experience any issues whatsoever. It’s an excellent idea and platform, and it’s a great way to update software and apply beta profiles to the device.

Jawbone claims 4.5 hours of talk time, and up to 10 days of Standby time. In real world testing, I got about 4 hours of talk time.

Overall, the Jawbone ICON is a winner in my book. It’s sleek, stylish, and comfortable to wear. NoiseAssassin worked really well for the most part, the myTALK is just an awesome program. It retails for $99.99 at Jawbone, and it may be pricey for a few of you guys, but if you want a quality bluetooth headset, this is one of your best choices.

Hmm? Did someone mention giveaway?….

Jawbone was kind enough to supply us with another Jawbone ICON for giveaway! Yep, I’m not lying. The color/style we’ll be giving away is The Catch, and it’s brand new and unopened. How do ya win? Just comment below with why you need an ICON, and we’ll pick one from the bunch! The giveaway ends on July 30th, so get commenting! Good luck!

My Moto H710 is dying. constantly relays inaccurate commands. Ear loop is worn out too, always wants to fall off. Boy, I NEED one of these.

  • Gilson

I use a Jabra BT530 everyday while driving to work and back home so that I can listen to my favorite podcasts. Last month the on/off switch broke and now I have to take a small watchmaker screwdriver with me to turn the headset on or off by pushing/pulling what`s left of the switch through a small gap…
The jawbone is a lot better looking, seems sturdier and A2DP is a must have!

  • Dave

I recently gave my headset to my younger brother as recently he’s been ‘borrowing’ it more and more. Having looked around on the net for a replacement, I finally stumbled onto the Icon and it’s just fantastic. Looks good, has a2dp via update so I can use it for my phone and for skype.

And then I saw the price. Being a student that’s always a problem so this would be a big help.

    Cheers,
    Dave

    Dear Mobilitysite,

The reason I need a this Jawbone ICON is simply because, well, I am in need of a Bluetooth headset. Three days a week, I commute 120 km (80m) to volunteer at a martial arts facility. As you may know, talking whilst driving is prohibited up here in Canada so I am forced to reject all calls whilst on the road. If I had a Bluetooth headset I could easily answer calls on the road, which would greatly increase my productivity, with regards to both my business and personal life. It would also allow me to communicate with my family safely and legally. Kindest Regards,

    Tristan Walsh

I need it because I accidentally ran my Jawbone II through the wash.

I'm currently living at at a house where, to get a phone signal, I need to leave the phone on the window sill, and use my Bluetooth headset (yay for small towns in West Virginia!). The (other) problem is, my bluetooth is an old Motorola H500 (4 or 5 years old) and the battery is going out (recharge every 6 hours or so). To top it all off, I am from Texas, but going to school in West Virginia, so whenever I travel home, I have a nice 22hour drive, and a nice headset would make the drive much easier :)

  • William488

I need one because my old one is so old and crappy the foam piece has disintegrated. All I have in my ear is hard plastic and metal. And did I say I liked puppies and kittens and all that type of crap? Doesn't that make me a more deserving person? It should.

  • http://twitter.com/joonsuan Tan Joon Suan

Am using a 2 year old Motorola H12, and the noise cancellation is not very effective. The Icon with Jawbone's reknowned Noise Assassin technology is something to really look forward to.

  • Xdalaw

I need the Jawbone because without it, I'm a menace on the road! Too much phone use while driving isn't a good idea without a good handsfree option. The Jawbone would be a perfect fit for my lifestyle–and probably for my ear, too.

  • Dan

Sometimes I just have to answer the phone when driving, and man, how do you stay in the same lane? I need 3 hands, or an ICON!

My other plantronics is starting to get old and worn out…need a new tech gadget….

  • geneb

I could really use the Jawbone. I look ridiculous with my touchscreen WM 6.5 phone stuck to the side of my face!

  • Samri

I’ve recently been hired into my dream job, finally at 50. I am an Account Manager representing employers in search of VALUE based healthcare. We are a start up, and it’s exciting to be in at the beginning. Though I currently have only 5 clients – growth is coming! I already spend 3-4 days out of the office with clients and as my book of business grows – I need to be available to all my customers as much as possible. Washington state recently passed the “text, talk, ticket” law and holding a phone AWAY (no really) from your head is the only “legal” way to talk while driving. Unless you have a headset. I have been looking, researching, etc. and have found that the Jawbone ICON would be perfect for me, but gosh it’s costly. Hope I win~

  • Edward berg

I work as a casemanager in human services. I’m always on the road visiting clients and coordinating their care. My old bluetooth headset is now worthless: stays charged for 1 hr tops. On my human service salary I can’t afford a high quality bluetooth headset but surely need one.

  • buckyg

Would love it for the noise cancellation! My current BT sure does not cut it in that department

  • aberken

First let me thank you for your website and all the wonderful information that you provide. I check your site on a daily basis and sometimes more than once a day. I recently lost my job and cannot afford to purchase a bluetooth ear piece as nice as the one you are offering in your contest. I would like to be picked to win The Catch because of the ICON features NoiseAssassin 2.5. If I were to recieve a call to set up an interview, I would be able to have a clear conversation without them hearing all the background noise wherever I may be.

Last January my car was stolen. While my car was recovered very quickly, everything was gone. My Motorola BT haedset, my golf clubs and softball equipment.
I have yet to replace my headset. so…
    just hand it over!

  • fellowweb

    Thank you for the article.

Jawbone's Icon would be really for me as I just stepped on my old Bluetooth headset a couple of days ago. :(

Man, I've had a Jawbone I forever and I loved it. It just broke the other day. This would be perfect timing.

  • Zacksba

I never had one so I will try to won a great quality one. Looks very nice. This would be good for driving too..

  • Kvand

Since I don't have a bluetooth headset, I could really use the ICON.

I got mine a about 10 days ago. I really like it and I found it on buy.com cheaper then the 99.99. I got the Thinker.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ken-Gedgaud/1192804566 Ken Gedgaud

I have never had a bluetooth headset for any phone. I really need one (for driving, while on the phone), but it is not in the budget. I have heard good things about Jawbone's products, but I would guess they would be out of my price range, so this would be a good way of getting one.

  • Isi

What a question! There are only 2 reasons to need one:

1- To be on the phone while driving and enjoying a quality call on both ends

2- To get a good one for free!

    Here you go…

  • autocreeper

I have the original Jawbone and still use it. I've tried Jabra, BlueAnt, Plantronics, and more – they all end up on eBay and I still use the OG Jawbone. Hands down – best one out there. I need to upgrade!

  • Venona13

It all started so very long ago. I was about 10 years old. I came home from school one rainy day. On my way into the house I saw this little white dog almost get hit by a car. He was shaking and wet. So I decided to take him in the house and dry him off. I tried to dry him with a towel, but he was just not getting dry. So I thought, how does mom get things dry? Bingo! I will put the dog in the drier. It seemed to work, but there was a lot of thumping and whimpers from inside the drier. So I turned it off and took the dog out. I had to think. The dog was still wet and crying from the cold. I know! I can turn the stove on and put him in a pan. He is small enough and I think it will get him dry. Unfortunately, the dog's paws were getting too hot and it smelled really bad. My next thought was to put him in the microwave. I will only put him in there for a second; I thought. He seemed to be getting dry, but we know what happens to little dogs in the microwave. :(
I need a Jawbone ICON to get over these senseless acts I did as a child.

    PLEASE NOTE:
    NO DOGS WERE REALLY HARMED.

The two things I love the best – gardening and cooking – would both benefit from the availability of this Jawbone …I could be hands-free at both! Not to mention driving. Thanks so much for the entry!

  • http://twitter.com/ttownscott Scott Harris

I could really use this because I have a 45 mile commute in a state that requires hands free cellphone use. My car lets in a lot of the road noise and this would make me legal and probably enhance the quality of phone conversations while in the car.

  • ha14

This is a fantastic bluetooth headset. NoiseAssassin and VoiceApp are great features. WIll need a good headset and this is a good occasion. Never tried a jawbone headset and thanks for this opportunity. Bluetooth headset can help to hear communications better special for those who has hearing loss.

  • Sfrrr

Your description make the Jawbone Icon sound like it would work perfectly with my hearing aids (a special type for people with only moderate hearing loss). In addition, I have a very noisy car and need a noise canceling headset that doesn't cover your entire ear but still muffles background noises. Thanks.

I could kick myself for not grabbing one of these when I saw posted deal @ 50% off. Maybe I can luck out and score a free one to make up for my previous transgression.

  • webbahboy

I need this great gadget for my wife. Since I know I can't Stop her from talking while driving I should at least keep her hands free.

I work as a courier in the Seattle area. So I'm on my phone all day while driving about.Hands freee is now the law & my 2 year old Jawbone2 has broken. So it's time for a upgrade & so far Jawbone has been the best headset I've used.

  • Gorgo Mctavish

I would like one for my pet turtle.

  • Dlindmman831

I've been waiting for the addition of A2DP and now it's there! I have a Jabra Stone, but it does not work as well as I hoped…plus the battery life is horrible. I need to be saved by the ICON!

  • James

I travel for work a lot so this could be a great help as I don't own a hands free bluetooth headset.

Never used a bluetooth before, but now that Ontario has enforced the “no electronic device law” – it's probably best i get one – and where best to start than one that is top of the line – I hope i get it *fingers crossed* :D
