Two of the most popular mobile phones right now are apple’s iphone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S3. While many people have preferences based on loyalty to certain brands or operating systems, other consumers are open to various choices in regards to their mobile phone selection. Comparing these two popular phones can allow consumers to understand what they would be getting if they opt to purchase one of them over the others.
When comparing the iPhone 5 to the Samsung Galaxy S3 the screen of the S3 is visibly larger. Measuring in at 4.8 inches the S3’s display is almost an inch larger than the 4 inch display screen on the iPhone 5. Given the larger dimensions of the screen it should be of no surprise that the resolution is better, 1280 x 720, while the resolution of the iPhone 5 is 1136 x 640. The screen of the iPhone 5 is smaller than the S3, it is the largest screen designed for the iPhone up to this point. Many apps for the iPhone 5 have been redesigned to accommodate the larger screen. One drawback of the S3’s size is that many people feel that it is simply too large to comfortable hold. The width of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is 7.6 inches.
When creating the screens for their devices, Apple and Samsung went about it in a different manner. The Samsung Galaxy S3 uses a Super AMOLED panel. However, when designing the iPhone 5, Apple decides to incorporate technology used in its iPads and iPhones in the past. Known as IPS technology, this makes the screen appear to be more natural. In bright sunlight, the iPhone 5 is clearly the better phone. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S3 does better in the dark with its Super AMOLED screen.
