BlackBerry Slider Leak: Legit? UPDATE: Yes

Posted by Sam Hobson on Mar 03, 2010 | Comments

The rumors were floating around quite a bit, and this may be a piece of confirming evidence.  According to BBLeaks.com, this is the new BlackBerry slider device: a device which combines the touch features of the BlackBerry Storm with the keyboard (which slides out) and 5-way navigation of traditional BlackBerries. Unfortunately, there is no way to know if these photos are real or not, or, if they are real, if they...

BlackBerry Bold 9700 Review

Posted by Sam Hobson on Jan 20, 2010 | Comments

NOTE: Due to some technical issues with the blog, this review was published later than expected.  My apologies for the delay. Recently I upgraded from the BlackBerry Bold 9000 to the BlackBerry Bold 9700.  I decided to take this opportunity to review it as well. It is certainly a worthy upgrade to the Bold series, improving on things such as form factor, memory, and performance.  It is definitely much...

BlackBerry Presenter: Another Reason not to carry your laptop

Posted by Sam Hobson on Jan 07, 2010 | Comments

Alot of people have to give presentations.  It’s just part of the work life (not that I would know :D).  For people who have to give alot of presentations, I’m sure it can be troublesome to have to lug your laptop around constantly. Fortunately for those people, RIM has answered with the BlackBerry Presenter, a small device that can connect to your Berry via Bluetooth and to a screen/projector via s-video...

Google Nexus One to get some AT&T love?

Posted by Sam Hobson on Jan 03, 2010 | Comments

Boy Genius Report states that this is just a rumor, but what the rumor tells, it’s certainly is worth acknowledging: There may be a second version of the Nexus One which shall remain unlocked as opposed to the one locked to T-Mobile.  There was no talk of subsidization by AT&T, so we can’t be sure it will have AT&T compatible 3G (though most unlocked US handsets do), but well see what happens soon. via...

BlackBerry Messenger = BlackBerry Fail

Posted by Sam Hobson on Dec 23, 2009 | Comments

Us Berry users have had it hard this month.  3 BIS outages,  one of them rendering us with no data at all. Different theories had been floating around as to what was going on.  Today, RIM has announced that the cause of the outages was BlackBerry Messenger, specifically versions 5.0.0.55 and 5.0.0.56.  They are advising now to upgrade to 5.0.0.57 to fix the problem. Whatever the problem was, hopefully...

BlackBerry Users in the Dark. Again

Posted by Sam Hobson on Dec 23, 2009 | Comments

For the second in a week (and third time this month), BlackBerry users are experiencing a data outage.  What started as a few apps misbehaving is now no data at all. I’ve noticed a worsening pattern here as we go on.  The first  two outages, I just wasn’t getting my email.  Now I can’t even get apps online, so no Facebook, no Messenger, no web browsing, no nothing (though oddly enough I can still...

UPS arrives for BlackBerry in time for Christmas

Posted by Sam Hobson on Dec 17, 2009 | Comments

Today, UPS for BlackBerry has been released to the public.  It allows you to track all your packages, schedule pickups, find stores, and even estimate the shipping cost.  It will also allow you to log in to your UPS account to access payment info and address book, among other things. I would think it is a must have for eBay and Amazon addicts, but I’ll bet it will be most useful for people sending Christmas...

You know, many people associate the month of December with Christmas, joy, presents, and all around happiness.  However, for high-school students, there is one thing added to that list: Midterm Exams (dun dun dun). Any student studying for midterms knows that it can be a real pain in the ass to keep organized, having to keep all your notes and review sheets together.  Well, I’m going to show you a few BlackBerry...

BlackBerry Equivalent of Lose It!

Posted by Sam Hobson on Dec 04, 2009 | Comments

A few weeks ago, I posted about a good diet app for iPhone called Lose It!, which basically allowed you to track food and exercise for each day in calories.  It helped you set a limit of calories for each day and designed a weight loss plan based on height, weight, and sex. Having switched back to BlackBerry in recent weeks, I was put on a search for a good diet app.  After testing and trying, I came up with 2 good...

BlackBerry Tutorial: Browser Fix with BlackBerry MCP

Posted by Sam Hobson on Nov 30, 2009 | Comments

I recently fixed my BlackBerry Bold and am now gonna start posting BlackBerry stuff again.  And I’m going to start off with a tutorial on how to activate the Internet Browser as the default instead of MEdia Net and WAP. This tutorial is aimed at those with an AT&T BlackBerry who have upgraded to a leaked OS 5.0 and find they are stuck with MEdia Net as the default browser, which means they can’t change the...

Posted by Sam Hobson on Nov 06, 2009 | Comments

As most of you know, Apple is a real pain-in-the-ass when it comes to certain things.  One of those things is ringtones.  Most of you know that you cannot load a ringtone longer than 40 seconds on your iPhone.  Well, I figured out how to do just that, and I’ve recorded a video showing you how to do it.  In addition, I also how show you how to create the ringtone, for those of you who may not know how. Blackra1n Updated

Posted by Sam Hobson on Oct 27, 2009 | Comments

Blackra1n, the tool to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1 – 3.1.2 had been updated to RC2.  It fixes a few things that were present in RC1 such as 3G and tethering issues, and problems with the Icy package manager.  Also, this version is compatible with Mac OS X, so the Mac folks can get in on the simplicity. As was before, Blackra1n will NOT sim unlock the iPhone.  It merely jailbreaks it.  An unlock is, however, ...

Browse a JailBroken iPhone with FileZilla

Posted by Sam Hobson on Oct 20, 2009 | Comments

Chances are, if you’ve jailbroken your iPhone, you know what SSH is.  You know, browsing your iPhone from a terminal over WiFi.  In most cases, you use SSH to add or remove files from the iPhone filesystem, and for such a simple task, using that terminal can be tricky.  So I show you an alternative method: Use an FTP client that supports SSH. If you run a website or server, you’ll know what an FTP...
