UPS arrives for BlackBerry in time for Christmas

Today, UPS for BlackBerry has been released to the public. It allows you to track all your packages, schedule pickups, find stores, and even estimate the shipping cost. It will also allow you to log in to your UPS account to access payment info and address book, among other things.

I would think it is a must have for eBay and Amazon addicts, but I’ll bet it will be most useful for people sending Christmas presents across the country.

UPS is available for free in the BlackBerry App World. Better hurry, not much time left until Christmas!

Any student studying for midterms knows that it can be a real pain in the ass to keep organized, having to keep all your notes and review sheets together. BlackBerry Equivalent of Lose It!

A few weeks ago, I posted about a good diet app for iPhone called Lose It!, which basically allowed you to track food and exercise for each day in calories. It helped you set a limit of calories for each day and designed a weight loss plan based on height, weight, and sex.

Having switched back to BlackBerry in recent weeks, I was put on a search for a good diet app. After testing and trying, I came up with 2 good apps for counting calories and tracking exercise: Livestrong Calorie Tracker and Calorie Counter by FatSecret. More after the break.

BlackBerry Tutorial: Browser Fix with BlackBerry MCP

I recently fixed my BlackBerry Bold and am now gonna start posting BlackBerry stuff again. And I’m going to start off with a tutorial on how to activate the Internet Browser as the default instead of MEdia Net and WAP.

This tutorial is aimed at those with an AT&T BlackBerry who have upgraded to a leaked OS 5.0 and find they are stuck with MEdia Net as the default browser, which means they can’t change the homepage, set the identity, or search from the address page, among other things.

It gives parents the ability to ~~stalk~~ monitor their kids and teens and see what they are doing. It helps parents protect their kids from misconduct, exploitation, sexting, loss and theft, and predators ~~while at the same time stripping them of the little privacy they have~~.

Some of the ~~intrusive~~ features include:

Email and SMS/MMS Monitoring
View all pictures taken, sent, and received with the device
View all of the voice conversations
View contacts and apps on the phone
View location via GPS from Google Maps
Filtering calls and messages containing non-preferred language.

It also has features to protect the phone in cases of loss or theft, including GPS tracking, remote backup, lock, and wiping and restoring, and antivirus.

Net Nanny Mobile is available for a monthly fee of $29.99 for the first phone and $14.99 for additional phones. Existing Net Nanny (PC version) users can start at $14.99.

Now, as a 16yo, its natural I don’t agree with this, but I’m not going to go into that. All I’m going to say is that something like this is kind of intrusive. If anyone cares to debate on this, I will gladly join. If it happens in the forums, tell me so I can join.

Samsung Intrepid Review

This is a review of the Samsung Intrepid from Sprint. Overall, I liked the phone. It has a good build, and the software is impressive. There were a few quirks here and there though. My final score to the phone was 4/5 stars

Lose It! An App for Us Fatties!

Having problems with your weight? Tired of all the fat jokes? Ever tried losing weight but found it isn’t that easy for you? For some folks it’s easy. Some folks can do it on their own. Others (myself included) need some kind of guidance. Well, Lose It! can provide some of that guidance for us.

Lose It! helps you keep track of what you eat and how much exercise you do every day. Using an easy to use interface, users can easily add what they ate and did for a day. It has a large database of various foods, including popular brand names and restaurants, which makes it so easy to use. Plus, if you don’t see exactly what you’re eating, you can add what you ate using the “Create new food” screen.

When you first run the app, you will be asked general diet questions like your gender, weight, height, ideal weight, etc. You’ll also be asked what kind of speed do you want to lose weight. You are presented with a few choices, the fastest being 2lbs a week. Based on the speed you choose, you will be told how many calories you can eat in a day, and the foods you add will be added to a bar graph showing you where you are in calorie counting.

It seems to be a promising app, and I am certainly going to use it faithfully. It’s free in the App Store, so go on and get it if you need to lose a few pounds.

Really Long Ringtones on your iPhone

As most of you know, Apple is a real pain-in-the-ass when it comes to certain things. One of those things is ringtones. Most of you know that you cannot load a ringtone longer than 40 seconds on your iPhone. Well, I figured out how to do just that, and I’ve recorded a video showing you how to do it. In addition, I also how show you how to create the ringtone, for those of you who may not know how.

Watch the video HERE. It will link you to a fullscreen YouTube player. I also recommend you watch this in HD. It will take a bit of time to load, but it will be easier to see. In standard quality, it isn’t that easy to see.

Zune and HTC Diamond: Distant Cousins?

So I’ve noticed for a while now, that when I look at the Zune 120 and HTC Diamond and the Zune HD and the HTC Diamond 2, I see a bit of a resemblance in the devices as far as hardware goes.

Blackra1n, the tool to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1 – 3.1.2 had been updated to RC2. It fixes a few things that were present in RC1 such as 3G and tethering issues, and problems with the Icy package manager. Also, this version is compatible with Mac OS X, so the Mac folks can get in on the simplicity.

As was before, Blackra1n will NOT sim unlock the iPhone. It merely jailbreaks it. An unlock is, however, being worked on, not by geohot, but a member of the Dev Team. Just be patient.

And a last note, if you jailbroke successfully with RC1, you don’t need to re-jailbreak it.

Browse a JailBroken iPhone with FileZilla

Chances are, if you’ve jailbroken your iPhone, you know what SSH is. You know, browsing your iPhone from a terminal over WiFi. In most cases, you use SSH to add or remove files from the iPhone filesystem, and for such a simple task, using that terminal can be tricky. So I show you an alternative method: Use an FTP client that supports SSH.

If you run a website or server, you’ll know what an FTP client is. If not, in short terms, it will allow you to browse a remote location like a server or remote device via the internet. Some FTP clients have SSH support, which is what you’ll need to browse your iPhone. There are a bunch of FTP clients out there, but I recommend FileZilla, the open source client that runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

Google Sync Over Exchange: My Thoughts

A while back Google introduced Sync for iPhone and Windows Mobile. It worked by using the MS Exchange protocol, so you could sync your contacts and calendar without any extra software.

Recently they updated it, now to include email support. So I decided to give it a try. I never tried the original, so this is my first time using it. My thoughts after the break…
