I posted this on TiltSite.com and did not notice that Jack had posted about it on MobilitySite also. But I decided to leave it up because of the extra screen shots I took. Check em’ out after the break!

Back on April 8th I posted (CLICK HERE) that Windows Live Search announced at the CTIA that an update was coming, and almost a month and a half later it hits and it’s pretty cool I must say! Here are the updates:

Map your friends: Grabs addresses from your contact list, puts them on the map, and provides directions.

View Virtual Earth collections: Lets you check out maps of locations/events shared by members of the community.

Web search: Launch web search directly from the client to find web pages, product price comparisons and reviews, news, images, etc.

Weather: Check the current weather, or a 4 day forecast.

I can say I love WLS. I used it today navigating my way around Manhattan New York! It worked flawlessly and got me to my Destination, “The London” and lunch with my Boss at Gordon Ramsey’s Restaurant! (And YES it was awesome!)

Click after the break for a ton of pictures from the install and screen shots!

You can get it here at http://wls.live.com

Well if you have, you can get some pretty good information about 3G networks and how three US Carriers Stack up in performance against each other. ComputerWorld.com has put together a really nice article breaking down the differences between the three carriers: AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon Wireless. So who wins? You won’t be disappointed! AT&T won out in almost every category.

The ComputerWorld Article is a good read and worth your time, especially if you are new to mobility and want to get more familiar with 3G. To read the article CLICK HERE.

I couldn’t help but post the results! I am traveling for the next several weeks and will very much enjoy the speed of the AT&T 3G network. I am stuck with Edge where I live now.

It’s no secret that I have really liked Skyfire. Version 0.5 was excellent with a few bugs. I sent some feedback to them along with what I am sure is a ton of other Beta Testers and they listened! Some of my suggestions was editing bookmarks, and multi line editing for Google! Version 0.6 has all of these in it! I am really excited about this release and have been playing with it all morning. Update came at 6:30am! (zzzzzzz)

Here are the updates log:

Multi-line text entry (2000 character limit)

Auto-complete text entry

Paste into URL or search

Ability to delete bookmarks

Multiple zoom modes for touch screen phones

Double tap to zoom in and zoom out

Support for custom virtual keyboards (SIP)

Web search shortcut in softkey menu

Access to Windows Mobile Taskbar in softkey menu

Persistent settings for Smartfit, Mute and Zoom size

Support for 12 key and 1/2 QWERTY Devices

Password Masking

Backlight usage based on system settings

OK button sends Skyfire to the background

This is a lot of updates! I think Skyfire may have launched themselves to the front of the Browser Race with this latest release. Check out a ton of screen shots after the break.

Check it out:

I’m pleased to announce the 1.0 release of ceSnipURL. I created this little utility to allow me to shorten URL’s to make them more friendly for use in twitter and sms messages or mobile email, preventing links form wrapping in email helps them maintain their clickability when sending them. Using them in SMS saves you precious characters and allows more text space to describe the url your sending. You could use URL shortening services via the web but the clipboard interaction is more cumbersome than using a small utility.

Features:

Auto places url’s from clipboard into conversion window on application launch

After conversion the snipped url is placed on the clipboard for use in your sms/email or application of choice

Very simple one screen application

Built in checking for update via the about screen

As always its 100% free no strings attached. Let me know if you have suggestions or issues via the contact form.

So if you use twitter, check out Vince’s ceTwit version 1.1:

New Features:

ceTwit has a growing list of features, community feedback is all it takes to add new things. Please download the appropriate version for your device and let me know if I can add or change anything to make it a better program. ceTwit is now and always will be free. I’m probably going to release the source sometime soon in case anyone is curious about whats involved in making it work. If you have any feedback please leave it via the contact form.

I have been using Skyfire now for about a month, and really like it. There are a few UI issues, but all and all, it has worked very well in my Non 3G Town I live in. You can check out my First Impression by CLICKING HERE. Of course, with all the good press SkyFire has been getting, it has attracted a lot of attention. I have a ton of contact form emails and comments on my First Impression Review on “How can I get it?” Well, SkyFire is backed up as you can well imagine:

On March 1, we reached critical mass for our immediate beta needs and created two phases for our beta program – Betas 1 and 2. If you signed up

between February 8 and March 1, you are in Beta 1. If you signed up after March 1, you are in Beta 2. We created these two groups so we can manage demand, and the only difference between the two is timing. It’s our way to ensure we can sufficiently support everyone as well as leverage all of your feedback to influence a stellar 1.0 product.

Beta 1 is happening now and each week we extend invitations to download Skyfire on a first signed up, first invited basis. It will take us several more weeks to get to everyone signed up during the Beta 1 period. Rest assured, we will get to everyone in Beta 1 by the end of April.

At the launch of Beta 2, all Beta 1 users will automatically be added to Beta 2 with no action required on their part.

So when will Beta 2 Roll out? Read more after the break!

(...) Read the rest of Not A SkyFire Beta Tester Yet? Hang On… (180 words)

There have been several reviews done on it. You can do a search on YouTube and turn up some good videos of SkyFire in action or simply go to SkyFire.com. But I wanted to give you all my initial impression of how well SkyFire is working on my Tilt. And my initial impression of SkyFire is AWESOME! I have been very impressed with its fast page loads in a non 3G environment. With that, you can read my “mini” review and first impression of SkyFire by clicking the read more link below!

There is no doubt that Spb delivered a winner when they released Mobile Shell. And now, they have taken Mobile Shell to the next level with Mobile Shell 2.0! TiltSite’s own Vince Koser put’s Spb’s Mobile Shell 2.0 to the test and likes what he sees:

I have been using a pre release copy of Mobile Shell 2.0 for a few weeks now and wanted to post my thoughts after having some time on it since it was released yesterday.

From the Spb website: “Spb Mobile Shell introduces the next generation user interface while keeping all advantages of a Windows Mobile device. Enjoy your Windows Mobile phone!”

My initial impressions are that this is a wonderful application. Mobile Shell has offered me a better way to navigate my phone, while adding a fantastic appealing interface with beautiful transitions and utility.

Read Vince’s entire review and lots more pictures after the jump.

Many thanks to Vince for his efforts over at TiltSite.com!

Jenn K. Lee writes that the Tilt was purchased because the size of the Advantage did not make it practical to carry on a daily basis. Jenn goes on to talk about the power of the Tilt as a daily device, but yet still finds the HTC Advantage accompanying the Tilt on trips.

Although I carry the Tilt with me more easily and frequently, it hasn’t completely replaced the Advantage. In fact, while packing my carry-on for a flight to Los Angeles today, it was with no hesitation that I grabbed both devices and headed out the door.

It’s a great read with some great pictures of these two wonderful devices! So head on over to Pocketables.net to read more!

Christian Sejersen over at Mozilla confirmed on his blog that Windows Mobile is a target for development that will get FireFox first. (Pause for a Balki Bartokomous “Dance of joy”!)

Goals

It has been about a month since I started at Mozilla and worked on Mobile. We have now reached the point where we have specific goals for Mobile (they are also on the Mobile wiki). The overall goals for Mobile are:

provide Mozilla’s standards-based open-source browser engine, optimized for mobile, that can be embedded by device manufacturers and others;

a full-featured mobile browser including support for XUL-based add-ons, delivering on Firefox’s key principles of ease-of-use, security and accessibility;

grow the Mozilla community in the mobile space;

provide tools and documentation to help developers develop, debug and deploy web applications;

do all of this work in the shared Mozilla source repositories so all platforms, desktop and mobile benefit each other

Check out Christian’s complete blog posting here: Mobile Goals
