Someone over on XDA was able to get their hands on an AT&T flashed Touch Pro, paying only $900 (!) for it. Maybe this means we’ll be seeing it here soon…

Pandora for WinMo still ‘in the works’

I’ve been watching this one go back and forth on one of the sites I read, but Pandora has been slowly developing (in spurts) a client for Windows Mobile. Carrier agreements and new opportunities have forced it to be delayed, but according to Tom Conrad, the CTO of Pandora, “The good news is that we do have a team working on Windows Mobile versions of Pandora. () it’s probably best not to comment on the “when” but it’s certainly not a question of “if”.” So long story short, it will be released and it’s just a matter of when…

HTC TyTN II/Kaiser coming to T-Mobile

From phonenews.com: “The FCC has revealed a version of the HTC Kaiser/TyTn II with 1700Mhz 3G access, making it one of the first smart devices to be compatible with T-Mobile’s emerging 3G network.

The device also includes a front facing camera for video calls, but it is unknown whether T-Mobile will support the functionality on its network according to UMTS spec or if it will offer a one way service similar to AT&T.

It is otherwise similar to the current Kaiser/Tilt with the addition of TouchFLO and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Edition along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, internal GPS transceiver with both TomTom and QuickGPS software, and 3.2 megapixel camera.”

Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta 1 Released

NBC Television programming on your Tilt

I just came across a interesting article. Apparently, NBC launched a new mobile portal to coincide with the iPhone launch for both the Apple platform, as well as Windows Mobile! I checked it out to find full TV shows such as The Office as well as clips from many others such as Leno. I played around with it a little, and everything works well, but unfortunately the good ol’ HTC video driver issue pops into the spotlight again, as the videos I tried had trouble streaming fluidly. Try it out for yourself. In Pocket IE, head on over to m.nbc.com, make your selection and speak your mind in the comments section. (What happened to AT&T Mobile TV?)

Game Review: GTS World Racing

One of the newer games released from Astraware is GTS World Racing. It is a sequel to the original GTS Racing Challenge released in 2003. This is an interesting title, especially considering it’s for a mobile device.

The game offers 4 main modes of play: Single Race, Challenge Cup, Grand Tour, and Championship, each presenting a different style of gameplay. There are 64 different racing tracks set in 16 landscapes, as well as multiple car types and difficulty levels to play. (Read the full review after the break.)

AT&T Updates

Following up on Doug’s post, I’ve got a bit of good news from the AT&T front. According to a leaked AT&T roadmap, they plan a few releases by the end of the year.

AT&T Tilt 6.1 firmware update coming in July 2008.
AT&T Tilt "II" device to be released in Q4 2008.

Tri-band HSDPA (3.6); Quad-band EDGE
Qualcomm 528 MHz processor

Push Mail on your Tilt

I’m an email addict, and love using my Tilt for it. Recently, I began looking for some time of push mail software that’s free and doesn’t deplete too much of my battery on a daily basis. I came across a few, and finally found Emoze.

Emoze is completely free and runs rather harmlessly in the background, using minimal memory and doesn’t drain the battery as much as other software. (I still charge my phone the same amount as I did before using Emoze) The software pushes your new messages to you when you receive them, notifying you for quick viewing.

They currently support anything with POP, as well as Outlook. I use it for Gmail. To set up/download, choose the HTC TyTN I, as they don’t officially have the Tilt, but it works just the same. For more info, visit Emoze.

New Program: Tricker Tracker

Tricker Tracker is a free new program which provides real-time GPS tracking for you device. The mobile client installs easily on your phone and runs in the background, sending information to TrickerTracker’s servers updating your real-time position. Your position is then updated on a live map and viewable from your browser. (Public Maps can be enabled or disabled so you can share your location with friends or keep the information private.)

Driving aside, this program can also be useful for joggers and bikers who can’t measure their speed and route, as they can look online and view their stats, similar to the Nike+iPod kit. Tricker Tracker can also prove especially useful if your device has become lost or stolen, as an exact GPS coordinate can be viewed on a map so you can find your device.

Astraware – Games for your Tilt

If you’ve never heard of Astraware before and like to play games, then this post is for you! Astraware is a mobile software company which specializes in games (they have other “Lifestyle Software” as well). If you’ve ever been looking for classic games such as Bejeweled, Insaniquarium, Text Twist, or even Sudoku, you can find them on their site.

All of their games are offered as a free trial (either time or usage based). This means that you can try any of their products before you purchase it. The games are relatively cheap as well, with an average price of $15-$20, so it’s definitely worth buying a game if you like it. For instance, one of their recent releases, Astraware Casino, includes 11 different casino games, from Texas Hold Em to Slots to Craps. They also have a Solitaire game, which includes 12 different card games all for under $20. These games are worth checking out. It’s always nice to be able to pull your phone out of your pocket and play poker.

They’ve also got a few free games, so check them out at http://astraware.com. Be sure to pick Pocket PC when picking a download. Sign up for their newsletter too, it provides special discounts and information on new products on a monthly basis. Their site can be viewed from your computer, or via a mobile version on your Tilt.

Like Freeware?

One of my favorite websites for software, FreewarePocketPC.net has hundreds of free programs for your Tilt. I’ve found many of the programs I use regularly from this site, and highly recommend it. The main way I find their new applications is by their email alerts, something that they send out a few times a week. These emails alert you of any new software to the site, usually containing 2-5 titles every couple of days.

Visit them at FreewarePocketPC.net and browse around. I’m sure you’ll come out with a few new pieces of freeware by the time you’re done. There is a sign-up on their main page for the email list on the right-most column.
