I have an x51 and had mine set up the same way to full power off. it seems to me that this function is similar to doing a soft reset. You get the blue dell splash screen it clears any unsaved data etc. I don't know of any software that does this but it is possible to do a full shut down. I personally stopped doing it because i found that when shutting it down like that i got annoyed that i couldn't access my stuff as quickly as i could if i had just used standby.

that is correct. when it does a full power down it clears the ram so it has to load stuff back to ram to run again and it takes a bit to get that done. imho it defeats the purpose of the pda which is to get to needed info quickly and not have to wait for a boot up time. but it does save the battery.
