The directions are correct, I've been using this for years. The time used comes out
of your plan minutes.

Your cell plan must have a line that reads National Access MOU or something like that. If you have a camera phone or a phone that uses the Get It Now apps you probably have it. Basically that is Verizon's high speed network (1X) which is what those two use. I can get about 130 kb/sec (ISDN) speeds using it.

I've heard people say that Verizon doesn't support this but as long as you don't abbuse it they seem to look the other way. Just be careful how much you use it to avoid unexpected charges.

If your plan does not have that line, you may try calling them and ask to have it added. Don't say anything about using a laptop though as they will want to sell you a data plan.

Edit - I am using my LG VX 7000 with my laptop via a USB cable right now to type this. Just did a speedtest and my d/l speed is 125 kbps u/l is 75 kbps.
