The OS on a PPC is in ROM (Read Only Memory), which, unless the PDA has some sort of hardware damage or had a failed ROM update, should never become corrupted. I suppose the user registry hives could get corrupted, but extremely unlikely without a failed install of software or by some overt registry tweaking.

Soft reset is your friend on a PPC!

I am curious what you consider a soft reset of Windows XP to be, though.
