your retractable cable cant supply enough current when the battery gets lower than around 50% because its a usb device and your computer usb port only supplies about 200mamps of current a powered usb hub can supply 500mamps of current but the axim ac charger supplies 2400mamps of current which is required to charge a nearly flat battery so your cable doesnt have the right specifications for an axim battery

Wow.... now that's something I did not know. I wanted to replace the desktop charger but it's painfully obvious that's not possible. Thank you so much for your information. :)
