I have opened the Power applications (Start/Settings/Systems/Power) and leave the icon open all of the time. When ever I want to know the % remaining in my battery I just open the application. I use Magic Button so it shows at the top of my X51V all of the time.

wow! good idea. I'm doing that now because I always switch my processor speed too.
